The Indianapolis News has re
ceived a cable from Hector Fuller,
its special correspondent at Che —
Foo, giving an account of his re
lease from Port Arthur and the con
ditions there. Fuller was rowed
across from Miao Tao islands by
two Chinamen. He was arrested
on landing, blindfolded and put in
prison. Fuller says:
“After spending five days in a
Russian prison I was released and
put aboard a Chinese junk and
sent here. Stories of starvation in
Port Arthur are untrue as supplies
are constantly arriving from Chi
nese ports. The Japanese blockade
is ineffective. The garrison con
sists of between 50,000 and 60,000
troops, and their health is all good.
“The damaged battleships have
all been repaired and the harbor
entrance cleared of obstructions
Immense new forts have been con
structed and in my opinion the
place is in no immediate danger of
falling into the hands of the Japan
ese. The Japanese land attack on
the 6th instant was easily repuls
ed.”
