Junes-Airraid. SATURDAY. JUNE I. 1904. SUBSCRIPTION RATES: One Year....................................................... ,2.0c Six Months....................... ... .1.00 Three Months.................................................... 75 __L___________________________ .____________ M ansger As the campaign draws to a close and election only two days off all the candidates and their friends are active and working like beavers for success, Which- ever way if goes there will be disappointments, more or less hard feelings and accusations of rolton- ness. Campaign stories will no doubt be started at the last mo ment when individuals have no opportunity to refute them and will possibly have some weight with the voter who does not stop to think. Misrepresentations are usually sprung late in a campaign by malicious characters who know that it would be nailed as a lie if found out. Voters should rem ember this. Don’t put any stock in the story that is started on election day. The Times-IIerald has nothing sensational to spring at this late date for election purposes. It does not think it necessary to re count the good qualities of the democratic nominees. They are all well known men who have numerous friends in each precinct to look after their interests on election day. Should they be victorious the people of Harney county will have done themselves proud and elected a set of officers that are competent, pledged to an economical and businesslike administration of public affairs. With such men on the ticket we feel no misgivings as to the re sult and leave it to the voters of Harney county with every confi dence of success. 1 A Although the citations read that they should show cause why their liquor licenses should not be revok ed for selling liquor to habitial drunkards and keeping disorderly houses— instead of selling liquor to Ii.dians, as published in these col ums last week—it appears it had not been the intention of the coun cil to take any action upon the matter at that time but to talk it over with the accused, to inform them that complaints were being made and to ask them to keep Indians away from their places of business so that no suspicion should rest upon them. Some of the councilmen express ed themselves on the matter and individuals stated that they were satisfied Indians had secured liquor from the saloons, but possibly not to tiie knowledge of the proprietors and asked the men to be more care ful and keep the Indians away from the back of their business houses. This they will do in future and there will likely be no more trouble in the future as people can not accuse these men when they do not allow the Indians around their premisies. The council do not desire to work a hardship on any one’s busi ness, but want to stop the drunken Indian nusiance and further to stop complaints coming to them in regard to such traffic. The meeting resulted in abetter understanding between all concerned and was bene ficial in that respect.
