The association organized yes
terday at the instance of J. N.
Williamson and the Chamber of
Commerce of this city The organ
izers, besides Mr. Williamson,were:
J. C. Moreland, A. II Devers, C H
Mclsaacs. J. M. Moore, Henry E.
Reed and C. C. Hutchinson. Mr.
Hutchinson is president of the Ore
gon Irrigation Company. A second
session was held in tbe evening, nt
which other persons present were:
A. M. Drake, president of the Pilot
Butte Development Company, nd
his attorney A. King Wilson.
These companies are interested in
the Deschutes country. The Ore
gon Development Company, algo
interested in that district was not
represented.
The Pilot Butte and the Oregon
Development Companies hold con
tracts from the State ot Oregon un
der the Carey act for reclaiming
respectively 86,000and 64.000acne
of arid land. The signature of the
Secretary of the Interior to tbe con
tracts is necessary to their final
execution.
The committee, us
above named, will ascertain if the
shadow of these contracts covers
nearly 500,000 acres of I h ml, as is
reported, or only 150,000 acres, and
whether the contracts have actual
ly been enter, d into between the
Government and the companies.
All desire to invalidate any vest* d
rights is disavowed.
That a committee of five mem
bers he appointed with instructions
to investigate the statue of all irri
gation enterprises undertaken it*
the state of Oregon under the terms
of the Cary land act, the committee
to report at ttie earliest possible
moment.—Resolution of tbe Oregon
Irrigation Association.
The committee is made up of—
Henry Hahn, of Portland chair
man.
J N. Williamson, of Prineville,

express purposes.

ascertain how largo areas are cov
