Williamson and the Chamber of Commerce of this city The organ­ izers, besides Mr. Williamson,were: J. C. Moreland, A. II Devers, C H Mclsaacs. J. M. Moore, Henry E. Reed and C. C. Hutchinson. Mr. Hutchinson is president of the Ore­ gon Irrigation Company. A second session was held in tbe evening, nt which other persons present were: A. M. Drake, president of the Pilot Butte Development Company, nd his attorney A. King Wilson. These companies are interested in the Deschutes country. The Ore­ gon Development Company, algo interested in that district was not represented. The Pilot Butte and the Oregon Development Companies hold con­ tracts from the State ot Oregon un­ der the Carey act for reclaiming respectively 86,000and 64.000acne of arid land. The signature of the Secretary of the Interior to tbe con­ tracts is necessary to their final execution. The committee, us above named, will ascertain if the shadow of these contracts covers nearly 500,000 acres of I h ml, as is reported, or only 150,000 acres, and whether the contracts have actual­ ly been enter, d into between the Government and the companies. All desire to invalidate any vest* d rights is disavowed.
