i W. She iimrs-Mirnifd. WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER. 4 18P6. M out real Threatened. Montreal, Oct. 29.—Montreal is threatened with a disaster even woise than that of the Johnstown flood, owing to the present condi tion of the reservoirs on Mount Royal, overlooking the city. The big basins have been leaking badly for years, and the leaks have beeu increasing rapidly. The ¡authori ties of McGill university, which is situated just below the reserv )irs, haue communicated with the city officials, pointing out the danger and notifying the city that it would be held responsible for $1,000,000 damage in the event of a break. The reservoirs hold over 20,000,- 000 gallons of water and experts say that unless repairs are made at once the walls of the reservoirs will give way and a terrible disaster re sult. The masonry wall is onlv 10 feet thick, and once it is thorough ly honeycombed and gives way the earth backing it will not hold the immense body of water. The effect would simply be the obliteration of a wide belt of the city from the res ervoir to the Lachine canal and I river, and the whole of thelowlying part of the city would be flooded. The mavor has given orders to have the necessary repairs made at once. ;?:C V. ith your Six weeks ago I t a very severe cold; was almost unable to speak.
