Indubious plays a free show in Bend
Indubious just keeps getting bigger and big-
ger. The bend-based roots-reggae band — led
by brothers evan and spencer burton — already
spent the past decade cultivating a sizable fan
base in the Pacific Northwest and beyond, thanks
in large part to their vibrant live shows.
Now, that hard work is translating into chart
success. Indubious’ 2019 album “beleaf” debuted
at the top of billboard’s reggae albums chart and
led the band to a deal with easy star records, a
leading reggae label that is also home to bands
like The Green, rebelution, Passafire, Protoje and
bedouin soundclash. Good company!
earlier this year, Indubious released its first al-
bum for easy star. It’s called “The bridge,” and not
only did it again debut at the top of the billboard
reggae chart, it stayed there for two weeks. Fea-
turing an all-star gang of guests including an-
thony b, capleton, Zion I, Mike Love and Jah9,
the album’s 13 tracks are stuffed to the gills with
the burtons’ melodic, ultra-modern approach to
roots-reggae, dub, dancehall and electronica.
These dudes have a solid following in central
Oregon, so expect their free show Friday night in
the middle of bend to be hop-hop-hoppin’.
Indubious: Free, 7-10 p.m. Friday, The com-
mons, 875 NW brooks street, bend, www.parallel-
44presents.com.
The Wood Brothers return to town
behind every concert is someone or some-
thing making that concert happen — some per-
son (or people), some company, some venue,
and sometimes a combination of those three.
Without these folks out there taking risks, book-
ing shows, promoting them and so on, our music
scene would be a pale imitation of itself.
so today, let’s use a little ink to shine a spotlight
on 1988 entertainment, a local concert promotion
company based in bend and owned by John davis.
1988 has a number of local shows lined up for the
domino room/Midtown ballroom complex this
fall, including a halloween dance party on Oct.
28, underground hip-hop group ¡Mayday! on Nov.
3, country band sawyer brown Nov. 5, beats an-
tique-affiliated electro-roots band dirtwire Nov. 14
and the aptly named Greensky bluegrass Nov. 17.
but first, 1988 will bring The Wood
brothers back to bend. co-founded by
brothers chris and Oliver Wood, the
band specializes in a soulful, laid-back
sound that seamlessly incorporates
folk, rock, blues and isn’t afraid to stretch
out and jam. Their newest album is the in-
credibly easy-on-the-ears “Kingdom in my
Mind,” which follows their Grammy nominated
2018 effort “One drop of Truth.”
says chris Wood (best known for his role in ad-
venturous jazz trio Medeski Martin & Wood): “The
idea for this group has always been to marry our
backgrounds, to imagine what might happen if
robert Johnson and charles Mingus had started a
band.” check ‘em out Thursday night and see how
close they get to bringing that idea to life.
The Wood Brothers: $30; 7 p.m. Thursday;
Midtown ballroom, 51 NW Greenwood ave.,
bend; midtownballroom.com.
Tower hosts pop hit-maker Tiffany
readers of a certain age may remember Tif-
fany, the teen-pop singer who scored a massive
hit in 1987 with her peppy
cover of “I Think We’re alone
Now,” which had been a hit
for Tommy James and the
shondells 20 years earlier.
she followed that one with
Tiffany
another #1 song, a ballad called
“could’ve been,” and a tour of
shopping malls, and then her music career started
to fade from prominence. but she has been crank-
ing out singles and albums ever since, not to men-
tion appearing in TV (in programs such as “how I
Met your Mother”) and in movies (such as “Mega
Python vs. Gatoroid”), starting her own cooking
club and touring. Tiffany’s website says she released
a new album on Oct. 1, but if she did, it doesn’t
appear to be available on the usual streaming ser-
vices. Maybe it’s delayed. either way, if you see her at
bend’s Tower Theatre Tuesday night, you’ll probably
hear some of her new material, and you’ll almost
certainly hear “I Think We’re alone Now.”
Tiffany: $35-$55; 7:30 p.m. Tuesday; Tower
Theatre, 835 NW Wall st., bend; towertheatre.org
or 541-317-0700.
