But suddenly that changed,” Boesen said Saturday. “And as everyone saw, we started giving him CPR.” Over the next 10 minutes, several medics worked frenetically to give Eriksen chest compres- sions while his teammates choked away tears and formed a circle around the midfielder to shield the scene from public view. And finally, the eerie silence that had descended around Parken Stadium was replaced with massive cheers. “We man- aged to get Christian back,” Boesen said. Eriksen was awake and in stable condition Saturday night after being taken to a Copenhagen hospital, the Danish soccer federation said. His collapse, which came in the 43rd minute of the match against Finland, led to the game being suspended for about 90 min- utes before both teams made the decision to play on. Finland went on to win 1-0 after Joel Pohjanpalo scored in the 59th minute and goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky later saved a penalty. But in the end, the result seemed merely an afterthought. BASEBALL Grant, 1st Black 20-game winner in AL, dies at 85 — Jim “Mudcat” Grant, the first Black 20-game winner in the American League and a key part of Minnesota’s first World Series team in 1965, has died. He was 85. The Twins an- nounced Grant’s death Saturday. No cause was given. Grant spent less than four full seasons of his 14-year major league career with the Twins, but they were by far his best. After being acquired in a trade with Cleveland on June 15, 1964, Grant led the American League with 21 wins in 1965. Don Newcombe of the Brooklyn Dodgers was the first Black 20- game winner in the majors in 1951. Grant’s career-best season helped the Twins to the World Series. He started three times in that World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers and won twice. Sandy Koufax and the Dodgers won Game 7. — Bulletin wire reports POWERBALL The numbers drawn Saturday night are: 8 25 34 38 41 10 Oregon Lottery results As listed at oregonlottery.org and individual lottery websites The estimated jackpot was not available at press time. We’re going to be able to mix a lot of personnel (groupings), a lot of different people around, using the whole field. I think we’re going to be able to do everything that we want to.” Seahawks Continued from B1 How well he can do that might go a long way to defin- ing Wilson’s future in Seattle. So what does Wilson think of Waldron? Wilson is thought to have had a significant say in bringing him on. And as might be expected, his early review is that Waldron indeed could be the man to help take Seattle’s offense to the next level. “One thing that I love about him is that he really under- stands the game and all aspects of it,” Wilson said Thursday after what was his first week of on-field work with Waldron, with Wilson having joined most of the team’s other veter- ans in sitting out the first two weeks of OTAs. “We’ve spent a lot of time together talking ball. … I’ve had great conversa- tions with him, several conver- sations along the way with him during the process. And I just really believe in him.” So what will the offense look like? You obviously wouldn’t expect Wilson to start drawing up plays. And maybe in a further ef- fort to obfuscate the issue for opponents, Wilson interest- ingly called it both “super com- plex” and not necessarily all that different from what Seattle ran previously. “I think that we have a lot of great things about it,” Wilson said. “We’re going to be able to mix a lot of personnel (group- ings), a lot of different people around, using the whole field. I MOTOR SPORTS Ted S. Warren/AP Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson stretches at the start of practice on Tuesday in Renton, Washington. think we’re going to be able to do everything that we want to.” Later, though, Wilson said that characterization doesn’t necessarily mean the entire playbook is being rewritten. “I wouldn’t say it’s a mas- sive departure,” Wilson said. “I think that we have a lot of the core concepts and things that we’ve done over the years that have been extremely, extremely successful. I think that we also have some nuances across the board that really challenge the defense. Like I said, using the whole field and really expand- ing the offense and just using everybody as much as possible with different formations and different looks and different tempos and all that.” Talk of tempo undoubtedly excites given how well Wil- son has often performed in two-minute and other no-hud- dle situations. Wilson skillfully evaded a question that got to what was reported to be at the root of some of his frustration — how much Seattle will pass in 2021 versus how much it will run. Wilson threw 28 touchdown passes the first eight games of the 2020 season before a mid- season slump in which he had 10 turnovers compelled coach Pete Carroll to try to dial down the offense some in the second half. Wilson responded with 12 touchdown passes in the final eight games. Asked if the offense would look more like “Let Russ Cook” or “pound the rock,” Wilson said, “I think we have a great mixture of everything.” In other words, why give it away now? — Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks quarterback During a Zoom session in which Wilson attempted to mostly look forward instead of rehashing his uncharacteristic offseason, Wilson also said he feels the Waldron-led offense already is beginning to take shape well on the field. “Obviously, we’ve been here for four days now or whatever it is — it is seamless out here,” Wilson said. “Just how efficient, how sharp, how clear, how the ball is coming out, how we’re mak- ing all our throws, catches, running the ball well, doing all the things we want to do. And that takes a lot of time. I know Shane’s excited too. So it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
