SPORTS BRIEFING BASKETBALL Mikesell leaving UO women’s team for Ohio State — Taylor Mikesell is headed back to the Big Ten and to her home state. The former Oregon guard, who entered the trans- fer portal on Monday, announced she’s headed to Ohio State. The Massillon, Ohio, native averaged 9.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 24.9 minutes over 24 games with 20 starts this season for the Ducks. Mikesell, who came to UO from Maryland last summer, has two years of eligibility remaining. She was one of three guards to leave the Ducks this offsea- son, along with Taylor Chavez (Arizona) and Jaz Shelley (Ne- braska), and all three ended up at other Power 5 programs. GOLF Bradley leads after 1st round at PGA Tour’s Valspar Championship — Keegan Bradley can’t recall having an easier time than he did Thursday at Innisbrook. He missed only one green. His longest par putt was just over 4 feet. It added to a 7-under 64 and another great start in the Valspar Championship. Bradley ran off four birdies over his last five holes and a two-shot lead on a day of low scoring not typi- cally seen at this PGA Tour stop. Riviera winner Max Homa had eight birdies and was in a large group at 66 that included Emiliano Grillo and Ryan Moore. — Bulletin wire reports NBA EASTERN CONFERENCE W L Pct 43 20 .683 41 21 .661 38 24 .613 35 28 .556 34 29 .540 33 30 .524 33 30 .524 30 32 .484 29 33 .468 28 34 .452 26 36 .419 26 36 .419 21 41 .339 19 43 .306 19 44 .302 WESTERN CONFERENCE W L Pct x-utah 45 17 .726 x-phoenix 44 18 .710 l.a. Sewell, considered the best lineman in the draft, should provide immediate help to an offense that ranked 20th in points scored and total yards last season and has undergone a complete metamorpho- sis this offseason. The Lions traded longtime starting quarterback Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams for Jared Goff and three draft picks in Janu- ary and overhauled their entire receiving corps, letting Kenny Golla- day, Marvin Jones and Danny Amendola walk in free agency. They return Pro Bowl starters T.J. Hockenson and Frank Ragnow, along with most of the rest of their offensive line, but entered the week searching for a No. 1 receiver and help at the right tackle/guard positions.
