What’s evident is that the
trustees at OSU didn’t do
enough homework before hir-
ing Alexander. What comes
next is parents of survivors
from LSU speaking out, more
reporting on Alexander’s poor
leadership at LSU and maybe
a looming “no-confidence”
vote by faculty at Oregon State.
Maybe students in Corvallis
will protest. Maybe parents will.
Oregon State is our state’s
flagship land-grant institution.
Its whole purpose is to serve
the state. Alexander’s leadership
now hurts the mission. I keep
thinking about how much more
difficult it will be to recruit, ed-
ucate, innovate and attract grant
dollars. Alexander’s bosses don’t
just include the trustees, either.
They include students, alumni,
donors, tax payers and the com-
munity. Basically, us.
It was a lousy hire, but the
trustees at OSU must know
they need to end up on the right
side of history on this one.
