THE BULLETIN • TUESDAY, JANUARY 12, 2021 A3 2 $ Central Oregon for taking the $2 SHOP LOCAL Get G SPEND Tell THANK YOU CHALLENGE By trading in $100 at First Interstate Bank for $2 bills and spending those bills locally, you showed your support! Congratulations to Nora and Bob winners of a $100 Old Mill gift card Here are a few of the other examples of how $2 bills were spent in our community About a month ago my husband and I took a $100 bill to the First Interstate Bank and asked them for fi ft y $2 bills.   We ordered burgers from Bogey’s Burgers for the fi rst time ever and paid with our $2 bills. Next we went to Bonta, our favorite dessert spot in Bend and paid with our $2 bills. Just this week we ordered pizza from 10 Barrel and paid with our $2 bills. To fi nish off our $2 bills we ordered take out breakfast on New Year’s Eve morning from McKay’s Cottage. We did send each of our 5 grandchildren a $2 bill with their Christmas card, but all the other $2s were spent to support local businesses. We thought this was a great idea, and appreciate the sponsorship of this campaign. We hope that you will do this next year too.  Th e campaign to buy local is SO important. Th ank you, Peg and Tom F. We had done most of our Christmas shopping locally before the challenge so we used our $2 challenge money mostly for restaurant takeout orders in the hope that our local restaurants will be able to survive this trying time. Th e restaurants that we ordered from during this time were El Rancho Grande, Bogies’s Burgers, Wild Rose and Old Town Pizza. We also did some stocking stuff er shopping downtown.  Judith G. What fun!  We spread our $2 bills around town.  First a fi stful went to a local hairdresser for a long overdue haircut and tip.  Th en on to Ida’s Cupcakes for a local treat. Th e next day lunch at Super Burrito was welcome aft er a nice urban hike. Finally, a rollerskating waitress at Dandy’s took the last of our bills for some yummy burgers, fries and drink.  Of course the remaining $2 bills were her tip yesterday. Great idea!  We hope lots of locals take you up on your challenge! Mary & Gary C. I decided to spread my $100 very thin in order to maximize the number of businesses included. Most were $2 donations but some went towards a purchase, especially the food. Th ey were all appreciative of the thought and support. A few planned to play-it-forward in some way. We are all in need of a little extra boost in these crazy times. I am so delighted to participate in demonstrating the power of spending locally, particularly this year!!! Th e fi rst thing I did was purchase a cup of coff ee with 2 $2 bills, and left a $2 bill for the barista. Th en I went to our best local bookstore, Sunriver Books and purchased 2 books, paid with $2 bills.  Th en I went to the Sunriver Toyhouse Toys and got a jigsaw puzzle, and paid with $2 bills. Later I picked up our takeout dinner from South Bend Bistro, since we’d ordered our meal and paid on line with a credit card, we gave a cash tip, yes all in $2 bills. Th e next day, I had 17 $2 bills left and I gave one to the nice man that pumped my gas, I gave my hairdresser a cash tip of $2 bills, then I went into the grocery store where the Salvation Army bell was ringing, that was my last donation, the remaining $2 I had in my wallet.   I have enjoyed giving and receiving “thank you”s from your $2 bill program, so my next stop was First Interstate Bank for another $100 supply of $2 bills.  Th ank you for your investment in our community. Jane B. Thanks for your support of the $2 Challenge!
