9 Young couple at OSU after Hawaii wedding Mr. and Mrs. Terry L. How ard are at home in Corvallis, following their recent wedding at Lanakila Church in Honolu lu, Hawaii. Both are registered at Oregon State University, tak ing work for their masters' de grees. , ... ' Mrs. Howard is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George K. Sing of Kaiiua, Hawaii, and the bridegroom, who attended Bend High School, is the son of Mrs. Velma Manning of Madras. Howard plans to enter the Uni versity of Oregon Law School after obtaining his master's de Etee at OSU. Between 650 and 700 guests attended the reception In Ha waii that followed the wedding. The bride was escorted to the altar by her father. ". Before returning to Corvallis, where both were students prior fo their marriage, the couple honeymooned in the Hawaiian Islands and Canada. DEATH REPORTED ' PORTLAND (UPI) Wayne McMullin of Portland, sales irianager for U&I Sugar Co., died Monday. He was 48. The Bulletin, Tuesday, December 24, 1963 Central Oregon Obituaries Willis H.Harris Services were held today at the Fuiten-Friesen Mortuary in Forest Grove for Willis H. Har ris, 54, who until about three years ago was a resident of the Alfalfa community of Deschutes County. He died December 19 in Portland, following an ness of three years. Mr. Htrris was a native of Fremont, Neb., where he was bom April 4, 1909 and spent his early years around Bristow, Neb. He came to Oregon in 1935, first living for a few years near Harrisburg, then moving to the Gaston area. In 1940, Mr. Harris was mar ried to Margaret L. Callahan at Gaston. Mr. Harris farmed in the Patton Valley area until 1958, when he moved to Alfal fa. He was a member of the Deschutes Cattlemen's Associa tion. Surviving are his widow, Mar garet, and three children, Dwain Harris, i aston; and Maxine and Harvey Harris, both of Redmond. Also surviv ing is his father, George C. Harris, Hillsboro, and his moth er, Mrs. Edna Mortcnscn, West N One , Solitary Life i 1 "HERE IS a young man who wai born in an obtcure village, j the child of a peasant woman. He never did one of the things j that usually accompanies greatness. He had no creden- i tials buf himself. 1 WHILE HE was still a young man, the tide of public opinion J turned against him. His friends rm away. He was turn- ed over to his enemies. He went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed to a cross between two S thieves. While he was dying his executioners gambled i 1 for the only piece of property he had on earth his coat. When he was dead, he was laid in a borrowed . grave through the pity of a friend. Mrs. Alice Snapp REDMOND Graveside serv ices for Mrs. Alice Snapp, 89, Terrebonne, were held Monday afternoon at Redmond Memo rial Cemetery, with the Rev. Marlin Love officiating. Mrs. Snapp died December 21 at Redmond Heights Nursing Home, where she had been a patient for the past eight years. She was born Sept. 24, 1874, in Edmore, Mich. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Eunice Rowe, Klamath Falls; a son Tom McKune, Lackland Air Force Base, Tex as; one grandchild and four great-grandchildren. Harry Boyle Funeral services were held Monday at the Ross Hollywood Chapel in Portland for Harry Boyle, 78, a long-time resident of Bend and more recently of Redmond, where the family re sided at 656 North 8th Street. Mr. Boyle, a member of the Telephone Pioneers, retired a number of years ago after serv ing with the telephone company for 48 years. He was a mem ber of the Golden Age Club. Aside from his wife, Hattie, Mr. Boyle is survived by a daughter, Mrs. William Tucker, Rstacada, and a son, Kenneth Boyle, Redmond. Atty. Dale Crabtree and Sheriff Murray Britton of Klamath County were named in a $3?,5il damage suit filed in Federal Court here Moaday. The suit was filed by Mrs. Lo la Harrington of Klamath Falls in behalf .of her son, Osborne L. Gallagher, 19. It charged that the youth was held in the county jail at Kla math Falls for 105 days, from Feb. 21 to June 7, without legal right, without being charged and without due process of law. Safety group urges caution SALEM (UPI) Drivers and pedestrians were urged to be especially careful during the holiday period by the Traffic Safety Division. The division cautioned: "Glasses can affect a driver's vision, especially if they've been refilled two or three times." Officials noted seven people died in Oregon traffic accidents during the 102-hour holiday peri od last year. As the 1962 Christ mas holiday begins at 6 p.m. today, the state already has es tablished a record in traffic deaths, and the toll may go as high as 550 or 560 before the year ends, officials warned. AUTHORITY GIVEN PENDLETON (UPI) - The City Council here has authorized an attempt to obtain federal aid to extend the runway at the Pendleton Municipal Airport. The extension would be by 800 feet to better equip the field as a Jet and national defense facility. Pope holds annual audience VATICAN CITY (UPI) -Members of the College of Car dinals assembled today for their traditional Christmas Eve aud ience with Pope Paul VI. Monday night the pontiff sent the world the first Christmas message of his reign. It reflect ed the Pope's joy at the thought that next month he will be pray ing in Bethlehem, the little town where Jesus Christ was born in a manger almost 2,000 years ago. ' ' "It will be a journey of of fering," the pontiff said of his forthcoming trip. "It will also be a journey of search and of hope.". Pope Paul's pilgrimage is scheduled for Jan. 4-6. In his Christmas message he recalled the Magi, the three Biblical Kings who brought gifts from the East to the newborn babe. Paul said the coming Christ mas filled his heart with de sire for a world free from hun ger, for a world of peace and for unity between men in Christ. The papal Christmas message was the first of several Vati can events in connection with Christmas celebrations. Tonight the pontiff will say midnight Mass in the Sistine Chapel for members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the Holy See. and a sister, Mrs. William Strie- Kel. in Chico, Calif. Mr. Boyle was a member of Parkrose Lodge No. 179 Af & AM, and a member of the East ern Star chapter in Parkrose. PSC to train Peace CorpsmeB- PORTLAND (UPI) - The Peace Corps Monday gave Port land State College approval to train about 50 volunteers for service in Iran. The $120,000 federally-supported program will begin Jan. 31 and end April 10, according to the project officer. Dr. John Dart, a professor of geograpny. Dart said Iran has asked for about 30 English teachers and about 20 agriculture and com munity development specialists.
