Haystack Calhoun heads
Bend grunt and groan card
Haystack Calhoun, a 601
pounder who claims to be the
world's biggest wrestler, will
appear in a giant seven man
battle royal at the Bend Arm
ory next Tuesday night.
Haystack is from Morgans
Corner, Ark., is 6-4 and tips the
scales consistently around 600
pounds, but his weight "varies
a little" from day to day be
cause of his enormous appetite.
Calhoun will enter the ring
with several other big names
who will go "over the top" for
an added S300 purse. These in
clude. "Mad Dog" Vachon,
Nick Kozak, Soldat Gorky, Lu
ther Lindsey, Abe Jacobs and
big G'' Ane
All of these should be famil
iar to local TV wrestling fans.
This "over the top" battle roy
al will be the last event on the
card. Winning constitutes elimi
nation of all the others. To be
eliminated a wrestler must be
thrown out of the ring (over the
top rope) and he must hit the
deck on the other side.
Some top flight bone-bending
will be seen in the preliminar
ies, too. Mad Dog Vachon, the
mad Frenchman from Algiers,
will meet handsome and popu
lar Nick Kozak as the main
prelim attraction. Vachon held
t h e Northwest heavyweight
championship for several
months last year. Kozak
wrestled this summer at Hous
ton, Tex. He is talented with
airplane spin.
Gorky, a "Russian bear," will

Zealander, Abe Jacobs. The
bearded Gorky will have the
weight bulge on his speedier op
ponent, and is expected to use
his famed "wolf leap."
In the other, Luther Lindsey,
considered by .nany to be the
greatest colored wrestler in the
world, will pit his 230 pounds
and great strength against the
260-pound and equally strong
Gil Ane.
