THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
I Corinthians, 15: 12-14:
"Now is Christ be preached that
lie rose from the dead, how say
some among you that there is no
resurrection of the dead? But if
there be no resurrection of the
dead, then is Christ not risen:
And if Christ be not risen, then
is our preaching vain, and your
faith is also vain."
The greatest promise given to
man, who has been placed upon
the Earth to live each his own
life, is that of the resurrection.
This promise made whole by the
knowledge that after this life we
may experience exaultation and
an everlasting life.
We who are members of The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints hold sacred the pro
mise of an everlasting life with
the opportunity to be with our
families and at the side of God,
if we so live and fulfill the or
dinances which God has com
manded. The gospel we teach is that set
forth by the Savior Himself and
Christian virtues constiture the
standards of living set forth for
our members.
Some tenets of "Mormon" faith
are not unlike those of other
Christian churches. We believe
in the Trinity, the Lordship and
Atonement of Jesus Christ, re
surrection from the dead and im
mortality of the soul. Bue the in
terpretation we place on these
and other commonly accepted
doctrines and the contributions
subaquently made in new theo
logical conceptions and principles
have given the "Mormons" a
distinctive place in the religious
world. There is no principle or
truth we advocate which has not
always been part of the gospel of
the Lord Jesus Christ.
Our church may be said to give
individuals a complete life. Social,
recreational, cultural and spirit
ual activities are all a part of the
church. In the recreational area,
the largest softball and basketball
tournaments in the world are
sponsored by the "Mormons".
Winners in Districts and States
go to the all-church tournament
in Salt Lake City each year.
To care for the temporal needs
of its people, the church has a
welfare program. One of the
finest parts of this welfare pro
gram is the method where by
they who benefit work out their
aid, or repay the church by help
ing others.
We believe that the "Glory of
God is Intelligence" and advocate
full schooling. Church wide, a
seminary program is available to
high school children. Here in
Bend our young people attend
this seminary program in two
different sessions before school.
The first session starts at 6:30 in
the morning. The Church has
established numerous colleges
and universities.
Due to the necessity of adequate
buildings in which we may wor
ship, a constant building program
is conducted. In Bend, our chapel
was finished and dedicated in
1954. We now find that we must
build again, and will have a
quarter of a million dollar build
ing under way in a short time. In
our Church, no building is dedi
cated until it is compltely debt
free. .
The great body of officers in the
church serve without salary, con
tributing time and often means
to their work. Only the general
authorities, and others who de
vote all their time are compen
sated, and then very little. Gen
erally we are without a paid min
istry. Our young men and women
are called by the general author
ities to serve as missionarys, and
use their own money, or that sup
plied by their families to support
them on what is usually a two
year term.
We believe that the strongest
link in society is the family, and
exort our own people to have a
home night once a week. We
know that we as parents will be
held responsible for the actions
of our children. We have many
auxiliaries who aid the family in
teaching and moulding the char
acter of the members.
We hope to maintain our chapel
as a credit to this community. We
invite everyone to enjoy with us
the fellowship of the "Morman"
church and the activities that we
enjoy.
