    Youth arrested,
juveniles cited
in Allen theft
Sheriffs officers are continuing
investigation of a recent burg
lary on Jie Bear Creek Road
property of John C. Allen, al
though an 18-year-old boy has
been arrested, and two juvenile
boys have been cited to appear
in Juvenile Court.
Allen, who is employed as a
lookout on Tumalo Mountain, for
the Stats Forestry Department,
is an angry man. This is the sec
ond time that one of his houses
was burglarized while he was
away at summer work. The same
tiling happened last year.
This time, items conservatively
valued at $800 were taken or
damaged. The break-and-entry
and vandalism were discovered
by a deputy sheriff while check
ing in the area on another mat
ter. A quantity of household and
radio equipment, tools and cam
era gear was strewn around the
yard.
Acting on a tip, officers arrest
ed Lowell Thomas Laite, 18, of
Bend, on a burglary charge. He
appeared Monday in Circuit
Court, but did not enter a plea,
and a court - appointed attorney
was named for him.
Officers say that Laite has ad
mitted taking a voltage regulator,
a small movie camera and a volt
age checker from one of the two
houses, on Allen's property, but
denies any participation in
damage to numerous other items.
The damaged articles include a
chain saw and motor, a deep fat
fryer, various radio equipment, a
photographic enlarger, a body
vibrator pad, a camera, a grease
gun and miscellaneous drill ac
cessories. Officers Indicated that It Is pos
sible additional arrests will be
made in connection with the case.
JAufo vandalism
is investigated
Sheriffs officers yesterday in
vestigated vandalism to an auto
mobile near the Little River home
of Mrs. A. Langford, who oper
ates a restaurant in LaPine.
The car was parked on the
road, which is covered with cin
ders. Apparently using a large
cinder rock, someone had made
deep gouges in the paint, on a
large area on one side of the car.
The vandalism occurred Mon
day evening, Mrs. Langford re
ported. County school
calendar due
A calendar of all school events
In the county, . for the 1963-64
school year, is being compiled in
the office of County School Sup
erintendent David Potter.
The list will be available to
schools planning programs, open
houses, carnivals and other
events, and is intended to avoid
conflicts whenever possible.
The calendar will also give
opening and closing dates, and
vacation periods, at the various
schools. As the year progresses,
additions will be made to bring
the calendar up to date.

8 o'clock, in the county court
house. Officers reminded that

ken en route to the meeting.

This month's picnic for Cub
Pack 23 will be held at 6:30 p.m.

meadow of Shevlin Park. Food ar

Agenda set
for commission
Bend City Commissioners will
discuss or take action on four or
dinances when they convene to
night at 7:30 in City Hall.
Second readings will be given
two vacation ordiances: a portion
of the old Bruin Field roadway
running trom E. Third Street,
and a portion of W. Second
Street south of Portland Avenue.
Also scheduled for second read
ing is an ordiance amendment
changing from single - family
dwelling to multiple - family
dwelling zone a piece of property
between E. Fourth and Fifth
Streets and Alden and Burnside
Avenues. The board also will con
sider an amendment providing
new requirements for the keeping
of livestock within the city of
Bend.
Petitions for street improve
ments will be heard. These in
clude a portion of E Sixth Street
from Revere to limes Lane, and
a portion o ' Emerson Avenue
from E. Third to Sixth Street.
Commissioners will consider
bids submitted by private firms
for the asphaltic concrete paving
of four strips of city roadway.
Dimick'home
hit by thief
Thirty-one dollars cash and sev
eral articles were stolen from the
home of Mrs. Pat Dimick, police
learned yesterday.
Mrs. Dimick told officers that
her home, 65 Shasta, was vacant
between about noon and 10:30
p.m. Monday. The prowler ap
parently entered through a door.
Stolen besides the money were
a 25-caliber Russian automatic
hand gun, transistor radio, flash
camera, metal horse statuette
and portable electric mixer.
Police are still investigating.
Alcoholics Anonymous will as
semble for a Thursday meeting
at 8:30 p.m. in the district court
room of the courthouse.
"Tht Smart Mart" is a two-day
rummage sale being sponsored by
members of the Bend Senior
High rally squad this Friday and
Saturday, August 23-24. The sale
will be held both days from 9
a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the Junior
High School tennis courts.

Statement issued to give
clarification in milk case
The Oregon Department of Ag
riculture has issued a statement
to clarify a misunderstanding
arising out of the recent hearing
before Marion County Circuit
Judge George Duncan on appli
cation for a temporary injunction
against enforcement of the milk
stabilization law.
An item carried by The Bulle
tin earlier was on information
from the plaintiff, Oregon Milk,
Inc., Bend. The Incorporators,
Bruce Markell and Dennis Mar
vin, buy milk in both Oregon and
Washington.
The plaintiff is seeking to have
the court declare the new milk
law, which establishes prices at
the producer level, null and void.
On August 2, the date the suit
was filed. Judge Duncan issued a
temporary restraining order
against the department. In the
hearing August 9, preliminary to
the trial of the suit itself, Judge
Duncan dissolved the earlier court
order, permitting the Department

A Mt. Angel couple has pur
chased the City Center Motel from
Mrs. Frances YValdron, owner
since March, 1958.
New owners are Mr. and Mrs.
Klaas Schenk, who in recent
years have managed a dairy in
Mt. Angel. It will be their first
enterprise In the motel business,
Schenk said this morning.
The Schenks came to the Uni
ted States in 1951 from The Neth
erlands. They lived for a year in
Newberg where Schenk was en
gaged in farm work, and then
