void created by the death of
Dick Powell who was president
of the corporation.
Until now a deveil-mav-care
character, Niven is having a ter
rible time bucsling down to facts
and figures.
"I meet almost every day with
Charles and Tom McDermott, oir
production chief." the British star
said. "I'm hoping they'll put me
in charge of the overseas depart
meitf.
Vnorthodnvy is part and parcel
of Niven. He conducted his inter
view from an open convertible be
side a lake on the back lot of
Universal Studios where he is co-
starring with Marlon Brando in
King of the Mountain. He plays
the world s greatest lover.
"One can't get too much good
sunshme, can one? he said.
Actor - businessman Niven ex
plained that his company was
branching out into producing fea
ture length movies in addition to
television shows.
"We have two new series com
ing out this fall, 'Amos Burke,'
and a new Robert Taylor show.
Our first movie will be 'The Out
of Towners' starring Glenn Ford
and Geraldine Page."
Encouraged by his own busi
nesslike observations, Niven con
tinued: "It is a profitable ven
ture. We've already leased out
million in series we've al
ready run 'The Rifleman' "Dick
Powell Show' and 'Zane Grey
Theater.'
"We're also branching out in
to the electronics business and
real estate. Can't stand still in
business these days, you know."

woman, Mrs. J. T. Longfellow,
was named president of the Ore
gon PEO women Tuesday after
noon. She had served as vice-
president of the group during the
past year.
The group, a women's social
and philanthropic organization, is
holding its annual state conven
tion this week on the Lewis and
Clark College campus.
