Robert L. DeCourcy, 88, resi
dent of Bend during the past 20
years, died Sunday morning in the
Barnes Veterans' Hospital In Van
couver, Wash.
Mr. DeCourcy was born Aug. 7,
lBfo On moving to this area he
bomesteaded on the Upper Des
chutes Iliver on what is now the
Montgomery Ranch. He was the
founder of the Bend Troy Laundry.
A veteran of World War I, Mr.
DeCourcy was a member of the
Catholic Church.
Rosary recitation is scheduled
at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel
of Niswonger - Reynolds Funeral
Home. Requiem mass at 10 a.m.
Wednesday will be offered by
Father Stephen Murtagh in the
St. Francis of Assist Catholic
Church. Burial will follow in Des
chutes Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are M. J. Mahoney,
M. P. Cashman, Des Currie, Wil
liam J. Baer, Jack Massart and
Jack Wetlc.
Among survivors are a half-sister,
Mrs. Frank Hern, Klamath
Falls; brother and slstcr-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Luther Metke, Camp

Warming trend
seen for area
Forecasts Indicate a warming
trend in the weather.
Fact is, some of the predic
tions hint of a possible "heat
wave" if pressure systems in the
North Pacific continue on their
present tracks.
But officially weathermen are
making no such predictions yet.
Weather was unseasonably cool
In the region over the weekend,
with heavy showers reported from
points west of the Cascades.

Training due
for reservists
Central Oregon Air Force re
servists, members of the 9608th
Air Force Reserve Recovery
Squadron, will participate in 15
days of active duty training this
summer at Kingsley Air Force
Base, Klamath Falls. The sum
mer camp will be from July 14 to
July 28.
Also participating In the en
campment will be the recovery
squadrons from Eugene and Sa
lem. All three units are mem
bers of the 8639th Air Force Re
serve Recovery Group with head
quarters at Vancouver barracks,
Washington.
The local reservists will train
and work under the direct super-
vision of regular active-duty Air
Force personnel. All of the train
ing will be designed to increase
the ability of the 9608tn to per
form its aircraft recovery mission
at Roberts Field in Redmond.
The local squadron Is command
ed by Lt. Col. Jesse L. Yardley
of Bend.
This year marks the first time
that the summer active duty low
has been held at Kingsley Air
Force Base. Previous encamp
ments have been held at Portland
International Airport.
Budget session
due tonight
The Deschutes County Budget
Board will meet tonight at 8
o clock In the county courtroom
at the courthouse. A decision is
to be made on whether to contin
ue or discontinue the county's par
ticipation In Civil Defense.
Askings of various county de
partments will be given a final
check and It is expected that the
final budget meeting will be next
week.
At the past few meetings, dele
gations for and against Civil De
fense, as well as persons interest
ed In other items in the general
budget, have been heard.

Teresa Stenkamp, 23, a senior
in elementary education at Ore
gon State University, has been
named this year's recipient of the
annual full-tuition scholarship of
the Oregon State Mothers Club.
She spent last year at Oregon
State, and the two years previous
at Central Oregon College here in
Bend. Her scholarship is an an
nual grant by the mothers club
which makes funds available to
students at Oregon State Univer
sity or who are going to attend

Oregon Methodist Conference,

housing project
PORTLAND (UPD- The Ore-
con branch of the American Civil
Liberties Union announced Sun
day it has sent a telegram to
President Kennedy opposing con
struction of a low - cost housing
project in Portland's Albina dis
trict.
The telegram also asked the
President to Investigate the site
selection policies of the Portland
Housing Authority, which ap
proved the proicct.
Oregon ACLU Chairman Charles
Davis said the housing au
thority was guilty of fostering a
Negro ghetto in Portland. The Al
bina district is heavily Negro and
Davis said the public housing de
velopment would attract only Ne
gro occupants.

Equal paycheck
measure signed
WASHINGTON (UPI) Presi
dent Kennedy today signed into
a law a bill aimed at assuring
women of paychecks equal to
those of men doing the same
work.
The President signed the newly
enacted bill in a ceremony at
his office, with advocates of the
legislation standing about his
desk. .
The law forbids employers of
about 72.5 million U. S. workers
from paying women less than
men for equal work.
The legislation does not cover
all women workers and will not
take effect for one year. But de
spite its limitations, advocates of
women's rights called the meas
ure their most significant ad
vance in many years.
No one knows now how many
of the nation's 24 million women
workers eventually will get higher
pay as a result of the new law.
Advocates of the bill cited specific
examples of wage discrimination
because of sex, but made no esti
mates of the totals.
The equal pay bill passed Con
gress with little controversy after
years of futile efforts to establish
wage parity In the law. The
breakthrough came when a com
promise method of extending the
equal pay principle was advanced
by Republicans and accepted by
administration Democrats eager
to pass a bill this year.
The compromise tied the new
ban on wage discrimination be
cause of sex to the existing fed
eral minimum wago law.
Rose Festival
queen selection

Festival will be selected tonight
from among 12 princesses repre

The selection is scheduled to be
made in ceremonies at the Me

Mikels film
to be shown
tonight, Tuesday
Ted Mikels' full-length feature
film, "Crosshair," will be shown
tonight and Tuesday night at the
Tower Theater, as a benefit for
the Eagles' Hearing Aid Fund. A
science fiction film and a cartoon
will also be shown. The show will
start at 7 o'clock both evenings,
with "Crosshair" being shown at
7 and again at 9.
The film was made entirely In
the local area, with a Hollywood
cast taking part. Leading roles
are played by Gary Clarke, of
television's "Virginian" series.
