escapees taken
.KANSAS CITY. Mo. (UPI) -Two
escapees from the Washing
ton State Penitentiary were cap
tured Wednesday by police. Offi
cers wounded one suspect.
Officicrs identified the men as
John Patrick Eberlein, 26. of Al
buquerque. N. St, and Rex Don
Stamps, 25. of Joplin, Mo. Both
rnen told police they escaped May
13 from the Walla Walla, Wash.,
prison.
Police said that Ebcrlin suffered
a superficial shotgun wound in his
leg.
The pair was suspected of rob
bing a service station. Their car
wrecked during a chase. Officers
said they fired at the armed men.

MANAGER RESIGNS
PENDLETON (UPI)- Resigna
tion of Ed Opocensky as manager
of the Pendleton Chamber of
Commerce was announced Wed
nesday by chamber president
Robert Sussman.
The resignation is effective June
30. Opocensky came to Pendleton
in 1959 from Fairbanks, Alaska.
He announced no plans for the
future.

Motor runs with virtually no friction

NEW YORK (UPD- In today's
era of tiny precision instruments
needed in the highly specialized
space machines and even in every
day operation of electronics devic
es, a drop of oil may be anything
but what the doctor ordered.
Yet wherever there is a me
chanical movement there is a fric
tion problem and some of to
day's scientific devices must be
capablo of operating at extreme
temperatures, whether in the
fiery heat of a skyborne missile
or in the below arctic cold of
some investigative project.
A search for solution to these
problems has led to the develop
ment of a type of motor which
runs virtually without friction and
is applicable to appliances rang
ing from computers and missile
mechanisms to your ordinary
household refrigerator.
Bright Future
It permits a motor shaft to rest
on a cushion of air or gas, rather
than on a film of oil or other lu
bricant. It permits operation of
the motor in extreme temperatur
es, and it reduces wear on moving
parts.
Charles Wohlstetter, chairman
of the IMC Magnetics Corp.,
Westbury, N.Y.. believes that
these motors have a profitable
future; he sees them as useful
in jet fighters and commercial
aircraft as well as the higher
flying space vehicles and missiles.
They already have a place In
computers, tape recorders and
other high-speed accurate devic
es. For example, computers gener
ate heat during their operations;
air movers are required to get

computer, its function is to
change information from one
form to another.
Servos or Slave motors, apply
ing magnetic principles, are
among the many in increased use
in today's devices; these repeat
the action of a master motor.
The solenoid a coil for the
production of a magnetic field
acts like a magnet when
traversed by a current. It can be
used in such mechanical applica
tions as opening a missile fuel
valve at a temperature of 422 de
grees below zero Fahrenheit.
Wohlstetter said it has an almost-limitless
range of uses in
today's sophisticated machinery.
MEASURE APPROVED
WASHINGTON (UPI) The
House Wednesday passed a bill
which includes $213,000 for opera
tional, maintenance and hospital
facilities at Kingslcy Field in
Klamath Falls, Ore.. Rep. Walter
Norblad, R-Ore said.
