ADVERTISING SIGNS
MUST BE TORN DOWN
Advertising signs along state high
ways in Deschutes nnd Jefferson
counties must como down.
This is tho declaration of
R. P. Newland, In charge of highway
construction for the state In tho two
counties. Mr. Newland Is anxious
that merchants and others who have
signs along the highway bo given the
first opportunity to remove their
property, but points out that tho
1915 Oregon laws glvo to any indi
vidual tho "right to remove or de
stroy any sign or advertisement
placed in violation of this act, and
without resort to legal procedure."
In taking this stand, Mr. Newland
Is carrying out tho orders just Issued
by J. H,, Scott, division engineer, In
which Mr. Scott writes: "Yon vill
ploaso nrrango to havo advertising
signs removed nt onco from tho right
of way of tho stato highways within
your Jurisdiction. It is suggested
that tho owners of theso signs bo
given tho opportunity to remove
thorn before direct action is tnkon."
