condition as wan thoy wore first
put down. This was tho roport glrcn
out Tuesday from tho offices of
tho Ilond Water, Light, & Power
Co. offices after several blocks of
six and eight inch main had been
uncovered.
In such excellent condition Is tho
old wood plpo, that as soon as It Is
replaced with steel, It will bo used
in extensions from tho business dis
trict, making possible greater main
capacity than If tho wood piping had
not bcon found to bo available.
Nearly a mile of woodon mains are
being tnkon up.
Not only is stcol to bo used In
tho business district, but It is to bo
laid approximately 30 Inches below
grade, a considerably greater depth
than was considered necessary when
tho old mains wcro laid.

held last Saturday at tho office ot
the county agriculturist In Redmond.
Preliminary plans wero laid for
a scries ot Irrigation demonstra
tions to bo hold In tho county under
tho direction ot tho county agent

this month. Tho flooding system
will bo emphasized.
Realizing that H. E. Koons, coun
ty agent, has about all tho work he
can successfully attend to In the
county tho farm bureau will meet
with tho bankers of the county at
tho county court rooms In Bend Fri
day night September 12 to discus
tho employment ot an assistant to
Mr. Koons. This assistant woaW,
have chargo of livestock and dairy
ing. A letter was read beforo tho meet
ing from N, G. Jacobson, supervisor
of tho Deschutes national forest urg
ing that tha farmers make more use
ot tho forest and .stating that the
forest service officials wcro at all
times ready to cooperate and assist
tho farmers.
A recent survey of tlio county wan
made and revealed that there are
720 farmers In Deschutes county.
The farmers, through the farm bu
reau expect to placo anothor large
order for fonce wire.
Somo action is expected In the
near future to establish a potato
embargo on shipments into this sec
tion. This section will have In mlad
the protection ot local products from
tho potato wart which has been
gaining ground la other sections ot
