eral miles of main canal had been

section of the- segregation. Since
1012 nothing has boon done. J. K.
Morxon, promoter of tho project, has
lived near La I'lno (or a part of tho
time that has elapsed, and several
Ineffectual attempts huvo been mado
to get a now start, but money ban
beau lacking nnd tho project has
stood still.

Now It has a now sturt. Without
any brass band, with no effort at
publicity, with no advertising of
what Is planned to bo accomplished,
now owners huvo taken chnrgo and
aire pushing tho work. When they
have finished and water Is running
in tho canals and laterals they will
bo ready to talk nnd to advertise to
tho world what they have. This Is
tho statement of Frank W. Tomes,
who bus stepped Into Morson's shoes
as manager of tho project and is
now In charge.
With his brother, E. II. Tomes. Mr.
Tomes came out to Ln I'lno from
Nebraska a few years ago. E. I). Is
now tho active head of tho Ln I'lno
Htato bank, nnd Frank W. Is work
ing out tho destinies of tho irriga
tion project. Ilestdes working put
tho destinies, ho Is also working
down In tho dlcth and can bo found
any day -In his oldest clothes hard
at tho common labor which Is tho
chief part of tho present activity.

Tho now owners succeeded to all
tho Interests of tho old management
last spring. At onco a contract was
lot to George W. Mclaughlin to put
tho west unit canal in shupo nnd to
dig tho laterals. This work Is now
going forward nnd will lucludo alto
gether about 17 miles of digging.
In addition, heudgates and drops
will bo put In nnd repairs to tho old
canal made.
Tho biggest ploco of repair work
consists In rebuilding tho canal bank
nt tho placo whoro It was washed
out u few years ugo. This Is nn ox
tensive job and will cost over $2600.
Tho McLaughlin contract Is for
over $22,000, so that It will bo seen
that some 130,000 or more Is being
laid out this Burumor, largely for
labor ellhor on tho ditch or nt tho
local sawmill, which in being called
on for quantities of lumber.

summer, tho only deliveries being to
tho Stearns and Mayflold ranches In
satisfaction of old water rights, de

today of Charles W. Ersklne, chair
man of tho celebration committee.
A placo will bo mado on tho program
nnd sultabla cash prizes will bo pro
vided by tho committee Tho number
of events will bo determined by tho
number and class of entrants, and at
least ono raco will be exclusively for
lady riders.
Earlier plans of tho committee had
Included a short military demonstra
tion by returned soldiers, but duo to
unavoidable circumstances It has
been necessary to eliminate this
fcaturo. Tho committee, however,
promises thnt tho ovents now arrang
ed will completely fill every hour
of the day.

been strong In Ilend.
According to tho 1919 state laws,
any boxing contest held without per
mission of n commission b classed as
a prizefight and 13 forbidden under
penalty of a heavy fine. A commis
sion may be appointed by tho mayor
and consists of from thrco to five
members, ono of whom must bo a
practicing physician.
Members of a boxing commission

tain fixed percentago from tho re
ceipts of each contest. This goes to
make up a fund which may bo used
for the rellof of tho poor after It
passes tho $500 mark.
