Last November tho secretary of ag riculture addressed a statement to the farmers of tho nntion In which he said: "The world will havo need particularly of u greater supply than normal .ot livestock, especially ot fats. Wc should not fall therefore to adopt every feaslblo means ot eco nomically increasing our livestock products." How the farmers nre re sponding to this council Is shown In the recent report ot the bureau ot crop estimates, which Is based upon reports from about 10,000 reporters. The farm supply of swine says tho report increased about. 18.5 per cont. or about 11,892,000 head, during March as compared with the increase of about 7.6, or 4,789,000 during March of last year. Tho supply of cattle Increased about 2.8 per cent during March of this year and a year ago, but form the standpoint ot num bers tho Increase in March ot this year was 1,959,000 head, as compar ed for 1,846,000 head for the month a year ago. The sheep appears to havo increased 11.9 per cent., or 6,394,000 head In 'March, as com pared with an Increase of 7,5 por cent., or 3,696,000 head In March ot last year. From January 1 to April 1 the apparent Increase of sheop was 20.5 per tent, or 10,204,000 head, as compared with an Increase ot 9 Per cent or 4, ju 7.000 head lu tho first three mouths of 1918.
