Rend "Will ray $70,502.15 on Vnlun- Failure of Company to l'rmiilc Prop-,
Uon of $1,0124241 This Year,
Shown by Figures of
County Assessor.
An advanco of ono mill in the levy
for tho city of Dend for this year
was announced this morning by
County Assessor W. T. Mullarkoy,
following tho computntlon.of taxes
for tho school district, tho city and
tho stato and county. This is in
spito ot an increased valuation in
city property of approximately $100,
000, and is accounted for by a gain
in the school lax of G.G mills, as tho
city and tho state and county lories
show a marked decrease.
Tho city tax for this year is sot
ut 26,848.87, to bo raised on a mlll
nge of 28.5, tho stato and county lory
will bo $20,346.04, with a 20.1 mill
age, while that part of School Dis
trict No. 1 lying within tho city will
contribute $30,3G7.23, representing
30 mills. Tho total Is 78. G mills as
against 77 G of tho year before. I
Tho total mlllago In tho city last
year embraced 24.3 for tho school
district, 21.C for stato and county
and 30.8 for tho city propor. This
was on a valuation of $S96,G6G, I
making a lovy ot $69,580.47 as
against $79,562.15 for tho present'
year. Of this, public utilities in
Bend will pay on a valuation ot
$102,636. i
Tho cntiro tax to bo collected for
District No. 1 amounts to $70,162.98,
inoro than twice Bend's sharo ot this
Item ot expense. This is accounted
for largely by tho fact that the mills,
while included in the district, are
not In tho city.

War Restri&ions Are Off ! ? Greatest
Undoing of High Prices Bend Has
Seen During The Past Four Years!!
We are not going to look out for anyone else--our bills must be. paid and we
don't intend to wait for others to pay them for us. We are greatly
OVERLOADED!
There is only one thing to do under such circumstances, and with mercy for
no one we are going to do it.
CRUSHING OUT THE WAR PROFITS !
Recognizing the fact Unit tifter-the-ynr readjustment of business of all kinds will see many changes from pres
ent methods, this store proposes to put its house in order NOW. It's easier to meet lhe.se new conditions with
the CASH IN HAND than with high-cost merchandise on the .shelves. The war has taxed your purse to the
the limit on everything you buy. It has, no doubt, been the excuse for unusual profits in many transact ions.
"ON ACCOUNT OFTIIE WAR" has been dinned into your curs 'till you're dizzy. Here's a relief a HEAL

PRICES SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES
You've been urged pretty steadily to save for war purposes; now we're going
to suggest you save for peace. We're going to do better than suggest; we re
going to show you how to do it and provide the means to do it.
