broke for cover, while tho Marines

which they had taken refuge with

All grades In tho Ilend public
schools, as previously announced,
will resume work on Monday after
an unforced vacation of seven and a
half weeks, duo to tho Influenza clos
ing order.
At a meeting of tho school board
and thu teachers, held yesturdny
afternoon, plans for work for thu
balance of the school year woro dis
cussed with a view to deciding on
tho best program to bo followed to
make up for thu lost time. Alterna
tive plans which had been agreed
upon by thu board woro presented,
thu first providing for a half session
on Saturdays and threu weeks' ex
tension of tho year, and tho second
for a four weeks' extension, and
after a general discussion a vote of
tho teachers was taken as to thu
plan preferred.
Ilecnusu of special conditions af
fecting thu situation In thu different
sections of thu schools, the vote was
taken separately for tho high school,
tho grades above thu third and those
below tho third, thu result being that
thu Saturday session wns favored by
thu grades above tho third and op
posed by the other two sections.
Plans will now bo mado to carry

of thu votu.
