bo madu by Marino corps recruiting
officers and naval medical officers.
Applicants who fall In this examina
tion will bo still available for tho
draft.

plicant for tho corps, tho recruiting
officer will send a request lo tho pro
vost marshal general for this man's
Induction Into thu corps. Tho provost
marshal gonoral will then order the
local hoard having Jurisdiction ovor
thu man to Induct him Into tho corps
and (o deliver him (o (ho Marino
corps recruiting station. Upon In
duction tho recruiting officer will ad
minister to thu applicant tho regular
oath for enlistment Into tho corps
and transfer him to (ho recruit depot

that men for special limited service

terday afternoon when they pleaded
(guilty to having intoxicating liquor

was fined $20 nnd costs.

tence Imposed by Judgo Hastes wero
n result of tho arrest of tho men by
members of tho sheriff's offlco Tues
day as they wero returning from a

200 quarts of Hunnybrook and other

At tho hearing both Jloago nnd
Lowell confirmed tho statement of
Itoblnson thai ho was not a member
of tho party to purchasing tho liquor,
but had been with them, and had
taken no part In tho proceedings.
Itoblnson declared that ho did not
know that tho men had gono to tho
California lino for tho purchaso of
"booze."
Itoblnson has paid his fine and was
released from custody last night.

accompanying responsibilities holds
no charm for Gleason Powell, son
of A. G. Powell of this city, who has
been stationed at Camp Lewis since
1917 as an Inntructor. Powell en
listed In 1917 and since that time
has risen to tho rank of top sergeant,
with prospects of being sent to an
officers' training camp, which ho is
willing to trado for a hair cut, ns
tho following letter will testify:
"Camp Lewis, Wash.
"Dear Father:
"Just a lino to let you know that
I am still In the game, but I am sure
somo busy &uy most of the time. I
got rid of my recruit detachment
last night after supper, but M com
pany drew 74 ot them and as that
company is shooting on tho range
this week, I automatically took com
mand ot the new men, so I am about
as bad off as over for a while. I
haven't so many men to look after.
I only havo three non-coms help
ing me.
"They are trying to send mo to
officers' training camp, but so far I
have succeeded In ducking It. My i
application went In last Saturday and
I was supposed to hove gono before
tho examining board Monday night,
but I -went to Green park and got a
hair cut Instead. I think I needed

ity of going after a commission. They
may get mo yet or thoy may havo
