been given for tho completion of the
PrlncYlllc-Ilcdnjond municipal Hue,
according to an artlclo Itv the Crook
County Journal under yesterday's
date Steel rails havo already been
ordored, and can bo delivered almost
Immediately so tho completion of tlo
road within tho vory near futuro Is
an assured fact.
"Tho grade Is completed and tho
right-of-way fenced," says tho Jour
nal. "Bridges and crossings under
way, tics dollvorcd on tho ground for
almost tho cntlro dlstanco, and all
but 2,000 of tho number that will be
required to completo the lino havo
ibecn cut and are ready for delivery.
"Tho depot site has been graded,
and, In fact, all matters attended to
that will mako the completion of the
road easy and soon.
"Tho few remaining ties needed
aro now being cut at a nearby saw
mill, and timbers for tho completion
of tho bridges at another but a short
dlstanco from Prlnevllle.
"Tho equipment. Including rolling
stock, has been bought and will be
delivered at tho call of tho city
authorities.
"A special gasoline coach for quick
trips has also been purchased and
will bo delivered on June 1. This
coach has accommodations for SO
passengers, besides mail and bag
gage, and will havo a trailer, and Is
capable of speed up to 45 miles per
hour. This will bo used In addition
to tho steam trains and can be oper
ated with less expense.
"As all material Is ready, comple
tion of the road should be made at
a very early date.
"A telegram received by Mayor
Stewart today says that only 10
days' hotico will be required before
dollvery A:an be made of steel and
other supplies for tracklaylng.
"Tho fact that these supplies are
being furnished to tho city at prices
that prevailed boforo the war shows
that tho main lino roads are doing
their part toward solving tho trans
portation probloin for Prlnevllle, and
their attitude will not be forgotten."

tion was first made In tho sundry
service act, passed In Juno of last

ation of tho organization for tho in
vestigation and classlllcntlon of tho
lands coming under this net was
undertaken.
During last summer parties of ex
aminers woro placed In tho fields In
tho northern states, tho Dakotas,
Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Ore
gon. Decauso of tho great acreage-
of land In these states It was not
possible to completo tho examination
before tho coming of winter, when
tho crews were moved to tho south
western states. "As tho season
opens, they will move north," says
tho writer, "making tho examinations
as they go and It Is expected that by
the end of tho coming summer all of
tho lands In Oregon will havo bcon
The commissioner of tho general
land office reports that nioro than
00,000 applications havo already
been rondo under this act, involving
between 25 and 30 million acres of
land. As tho land all has to go under
classification, nono of tho applica
tions has yet been granted, especially
in this state.

Work of regradlng and rolling the
state highway between Bend and La
Pine In tho vicinity of Lava Dutte
Is progressing under tho direction of
the county court. Mr. Dunsmore
has chargo of tho steam roller and
Is rolling tho road while tho county
has an auto truck engaged In tho re
gradlng. This road was rolled some time
ago boforo tho frost was out of the
ground, but tho surfacing was not
completed. Now that the frost is
out, it Is in tho Tjost possible condi
tion for packing is the opinion of
road officials.
