Classification ot all registered men
in Deschutes county was completed
yesterday afternoon by Sheriff Rob
erta and County Clerk J. H. Hanor.
It Is not known definitely for what
purpose these statistics will bo used
'but it is assumed that tho Govern
ment will receive, Information from
them on tho number of men available
in tho different classes for tho next
draft.
It was found by means ot the fig
ures that of tho 235 married men reg
istered, 100 wcro called and three ac
cepted. Of tho 331 single men, 115
'were, called and 36 accepted. Out of
this total of 556, approximately 475
wcro natlvo born Americans, and 16
naturalized; 46 aliens, and 29 declar
ants. Ono of tho naturalized men
was accepted and three declarants.
Among tho 64 aliens, 15 nationalities
aro represented, whllo six are semi
hostile. When tabulated according to oc
cupations, farmers lead the list in
numbers, followed by laborers. Saw
next, tho barbers nlso having a nolo
worthy aggregation. Tho following

That his work at American Lake
is finished is tho information con
tained on n card written by Gerald
Eastham, until recently ot 11 end. The
card was received this morning by
Harrison Latham.
Mr. Eastham left from Bond on tho
first 40 per cent of tho first draft,
on September 19, being in charge ot
tho squad ot conscripted men sent
out at that time. Shortly after his
arrival at Camp Lewis, ho was placed
In tho quartermaster corps, ,nnd was
mado a corporal.
Ills card, mailed from an Indiana
town, states that ho was headed for
Long Island, New York.

bution to tho Y. M. C. A. war fund to
bo $2670.03. This was definitely
staled this morning by Chairman T.
H. Foley, who with Fondall Wulte,
treasurer for tho committee, checked
up on cards and cash on hand last
night. Ot this sum, ? 1.074.36 has
boon received In cash.
Heports aro not yet in from tho
country and from Ilcdmond, but mes
sages received from Or. Ilosch, who
Is handling this section ot tho work,
have lod Mr. Foley to bollovo that tho
county will come up to Its full quota.

tho draft will automatically be can

on an Improved system whereby the
government will hnvo exact knowl
edge of every registered man and his
affairs.
Tho basic prlnclplo of the new sys
tem Is that those men are to bo taken
first who hnvo'uo persons dependent
on them.
Under this classification como sin
gle men, married men whose wives
support them, married men who have
habitually failed to support their fam
ilies, or whoso families aro Independ
ent ot them for support.
Men In this class will be subject
to call first. They will bo llstedNun
