Potato Growers association, farmers
who met last night at the Granso hall

necessary details In forming the new
association.
According to tho plans now out

cated in Bend. Tho crops of indi
vidual growers will bo marketed
through tho association, the adoption
of a standard system of grading with
association marketing, insuring a
standard price for standard quality
and size. Offers for Deschutes Val
ley potatoes graded and handled un
der this system are now being made
at 28 cents above the market.
Uniformity Desirable.
Gus E. Stadig and L. A. Hunt, both
directors in tho association as It now

ing tho purpose and tho workings ot
organization. E. L. Payne and Louis
Bennett, both of this city, spoke of
the 'benefits of a marketing organiza
tion from the standpoint of the gro

guarantee of a uniform grade and
quality gives to the retailer a com
modity more generally acceptable be
causo It makes possible the satisfy

dividual customers.
Committee Appointed.
County Agriculturist R. A. Ward
spoke on the subject, and Mr. Ballard
told how the potato growers of Wash

be able to satisfy the demands of the
California market. He advised that
the farmers of Central Oregon take!

As a result of the meeting, a com
mittee composed of M. G. Coe, P. C.
Burt and E. E. Butler "was appointed
to solicit members during the week,

WATER'S ODD TASTE
PURITY GUARANTEE

s
i
(From Tuesday's Dally.) I
Havo you noticed the funny taste;
In the water lately?
It's been there, very evident to ,
some people whose sense ot taste is
acute, and less so to others. Some1
have not noticed it at all, or only at;
certain times. But this will be the
last day on which you will find the
tasto present, according to Manager
Foley, ot tho Bend Water, Light &
Powor Co.
The taBto has been caused by the
storillzatlon equipment used at tho
town plant of the company to purify
water taken from tho intake there.
Ordinarily, Mr. Foley has pointed out,
tho city water comes from several
miles up river, being taken out in the
Central Oregon flume and then piped
to tho city reservoirs and mains. For
the past 10 days, however, because of
repairs to tho hoadgate It has been
impossible to obtain the water there
an,d the supply has been pumped from
tuA river at the plant.
At the plant the water has come
through the logging pond and has
been subject to contamination so that
as a purifying measure a small quant
ity ot chlorine gas Is mixed with it
an it goes into the mains. That Is
what has mado tho taste. Tomorrow
the flume will be In shapo again to
deliver water and the chlorine will
be cut out. It does not harm any
thing but germs, but it does tasto.
Water is pumpe.dfrom tho river at
the. plain only as an emergency meas
ure and tho chlorine attachment is
used there to assuroWater free from
germs.

Among the cards received this

There wcro also other cards stating

other distant parts of tho county aro

School Duporlntendent J. Alton
Thompson and the school children,
