Months t0 THURSDAY, NOVEMUER 1, 1317 HOOVER WEEK. Tho patriotic feelings engendered In business trip. by tho Liberty Loan campaign ought to go far toward carrying food con servation week to n successful con clusion. Wo need n stirring up, n galvaulzlug action, something to mako us remember dally that wo are at war, nnd possibly tho effort to sell tho bonds waked us up enough to realize that this wook's war-time ef fort Is worthy of every aid. It Is worthy of aid. Mighty as our army may become, tremendous as may bo our financial resources, they nre nothing If we and our allies have Insufficient food. Starvation has been fighting for tho allies In Ger many over slnco they began to block ado tho central empires; tho whole point of tho Gorman submarine cam paign has been tho starvation of Great Britain. If tho war lasts long enough wo may come to tho same sit uation ourselves. Indeed today the country faces a sugar famine, for the relief of which wo are called upon to exercise unusual restraint In tho uso of sweets. Except for this sugar famine, which Is explained to bo temporary, America today sees no Immediate prospect of food shortage so far as sho herself is concerned. And It is not on her account that wo are asked to bo careful. It is for our allies. Everything wo save will go into a surplus for them. Wheat, meats and sweets must bo saved for them and households all over the country are now being asked to volunteer In the cooperative work. Bend will do her share. Our boys at tho front will know that we will help them with food as well as with money. Wi 1 Myers mado n trip to Culver last night. Carl Corhott Is spending sOvornl days In Torrebonno.
