Total registration figures, including thoso who regis tered after the official registration day, show Deschutes county to havo 810 men between the ages of 21 and 31, and available for military ser vice. According to a previous announce ment of the government, conscrip tion will be based on census figures, and If this Is continued ns the gov ernment policy, as It seems very likely It will, Deschutes county will have to ralso only about SO per cent of tho number that would be re quired if the draft was regulated by registration. The government regulation that draft should be made according to census was made some tlmo ago, so that it would be worth while for men of military age to report slack ers who had not registered; as by the census method the same number tlon of tho town where the commit tee Is generally being received with donations of tho amount that tho committee designated on tho lists prepared before the campaign wns started.
