Pralrlc district in Contrnl Oregon
opened to entry la being renewed by
Congressman McArthur, who hns ad
dressed nn earnest letter to Secretary
La no on the subject.
Mohlor has bcon turned down hnrd
heretofore upon tils reports made by
tho reclamation ftorvlce. Congress
man McArthur now makes the rath
er unusual request that the petition
bo not referred to the reclamation
sorvlco, except for n statement by
that servlco os to Its position, and
asks Secretary Lnno to make a per
sonal Investigation, or refer It to
one ot the assistant secretaries.
Tho land In question Is covered
by two withdrawal orders. It Is part
of tho Deschutes national forost, and
also resorved as a tuturo rosorvlor
site for tho reclamation service.
Mahler contends It Is not suited for
a reservoir site, because of lava con
ditions and that other sites are bet
ter suited for tho same purposes.
Investigations ordered by the re
clamation service have resulted In
reports that tho land is needed as a
prospective, site for reclamation de
velopment, and that the area suit
able for growing crops Is of small
extent. Last year Mohler sent on a
package Of affidavits asking for a
rehearing, but made no progress.

Carrying out the plan adopted at a
recent meeting ot the Bend Auto
club, Frank Prince Is making a trip to
. La Pine this afternoon to check up
on the mileage cards placed along
tho road last Sunday by H. C. Ellis.
Tho work Is being done far the pur
pose of securing accurate road in
formation for presentation to the
county court when it takes up tho
matter ot erecting guide posts on
the main traveled roads of the coun
ty. By this help from the club It
Is hoped that the work may be ac
complished In time tor the directum
of tourist travel this summer.
The erection ot accurate guide
posts is being taken up all over tho
state by the Oregon Automobile Club
but, If left to that organization alone,
the work In Central Oregon would
not bo done until some time next
summer.
George S. Young, county surveyor.
Several changes may be made, elim
