(From Saturday's Dally.)
Ouyon Springer", county Judge of
Crook county, line resigned Ills of

from Prlnovlllo DiIh afternoon, nnd
-will retire to IiIh Jefferson county
farm to glvo IiIh whole attention to
ncrlc iiltural pursuits, uninterrupted
by culls from Prlnovlllo that tho
court Ih In session and waiting for
IiIh presence. It Ih Nald that tho
resignation Iiiih Dcoii forced from
Mr Springer to avoid a recall.
JudKo Springer's resignation will
appoint a huccckhot to fill the
office during the tinlance of the
term. JiiHt who will ho recommend'
ed liy the I'rlnevlllo Hcctlou Ih not
yet known.
The action which returim Judge
Springer to private life Ih wild prac
tically to havo heen forced from
Mm. 1 In fore the creation of Dos
chuteH (omity It was openly Htated
that If county dlvlson Hlicceeded, one
of tho first things to lie done In old
Crook would ho the recall of Sprin
ger. The feeling that ho should
loavo tho office has culminated In
the pant fuw iln resulting yostor-
day In a meeting attended liy about
4 0 prominent I'rluevillo men, and
presided over liy J mine .Springer him
self. It Ih understood that tho whole
situation was arKtied cUor there and
that finally the Judge appointed a
committee to decide what ho should
do. Tho committee consisted of (1.
M. Cornell, II. P. Johnson. 8. 12.
HtcaniH, J. W. Stanton and S. W.
Yancey, uud today they advised that
he resign.
In Office I'cuir VrnrN.
Elected In, 1912 for four jenrs,
wlion a resident of what is now Jef
ferson county, Judge Springer found
IiIh term extended two additional
years liy an act passed liy the 1015
legislature affecting all the Judges
In the state When Jefferson county
divided from Crook two years ago,
it was believed that Springer's res
idence near Culver would automat
ically catiHo tho office to lie vacated.
Ho took advantage, however, of the
lirlvlliu'n irtl'nil litlil Itlulnp f lift Inu-
to declare that his resldenco was In
I'rlnevllle, residence being said to he
wholly a matter of Intention, and
continued In office,
JIo has nevertheless, continued to
spend tho greater part of his time
on IiIh Jefferson county ranch and
rrno of the complaints against Ills ad
ministration of the office has been
that ho wiih there and not In Prlno
lllo when his presence woh iiucvh
Hiiry to hold court. More than once
lie has had to hu sent for, and on ar
riving Iiiih said that ho "was busy
killing hogs and had forgotten all
about the court."
Springer was elected In n three
cornered fight In which his oppon
ents were Or U. C, Coo, of llend, ami
(. A. Mcl'urluuo, of Itodmond. Ho
succeeded II. U. Kills, of llend.
