(From Monday's Dally.)
That tho dairy business la comliiR
Into Its own In Contral Oregon was
clearly ovldonecd last Saturday af
tornoon at a mooting of tho (stock
holders of tho Contral Oregon Far
mers' creamery, called for tho pur-
pono of discussing floino plana for tho
coming year and arranging for now
plniiH. During 1016 tho creamery
had an Incro.iHo of morn than 100
per cent In tho volume of business
over 1015, as shown by tho report of
Ulcn II. Slack, secretary of tho
. rrcamory association. During 1 01 G
tho croamery did a $38,000 business,
eomparod with a $16,073.28 business
In 1915, and $3,280 business during
tho six months of Its exlstanco In
1'JH.
Pultons are liirreiislng.
Not only did tho crcamury do moro
hunlncss In dollars nnd cunts, but It
did moro buslues with patrons than
In uny previous year. Jumping from
75 patrons In 191 5, tho Central Oro
gon Karmors' Creamery Is sending
cream chocks to 128 farmers tribu
tary to llond. With tho growth In
tho number of patrons has also como
mi Increase In tho number of stock
handled In this section for dairy pur
poses. Moro than $ IS, 000 was distributed
among tho local farmers during tho
last year for butter fat, nnd 159,634
pounds of butter was manufactured
during tho year. During tho seven
months which tho creamery sold milk
to city patrons, 71,300 gallons wero
distributed and 1,747 gallons of Ico
criiam weru manufactured. Tho
creamery hns maintained tho market
prices quoted on Portland markets
for butter fat, ranging between 24
and 41 cents.
May (let New Quarter.
Now that tho creamery has grown
to such porportlons In tho last year,
It has become necessary for thu stock
holders to look to other quarters. It
Is understood that tlio Demi Water,
Unlit & I'owcr Company may need
Iho building In which tho creamery
Is now situated and will compel tho
fanners to look olaowhero for quar
ters. For boiiiu months tho farmers
havo been contemplating tho pur
cbnso of property moro centrully lo
cated, Just what tho farmers will
do In this respect depends largely
upon what conclusion is madn with
respect to tint proposal of I,. II, l.n
Follutto, of tho llendmond Cream
ery, who has signified his desire to
ou(cr Into hoiiio sort of operating
agreement with tho farmers rolatlvo
to butler manufacture. Many of tho
farmers nrn not disposed to relin
quish this department of tho cream
ery, Inasmuch as It Is now getting on
Its feet nnd promises to bo conducted
on even a more extensive scatu this
year than last. Tho majority of tho
farmers are Inclined to consider n
building venture, If soma suitable ar
rangements can bo inndo that will
not too heavily encumber them. This
matter 4vlll come up probably at the
next meeting to bo held on Janu
ary 27.
Tho oltlcers elected to head tho
creamery for tho coming year nro:
President, Charles Hlpchen; vlco
president, Julius Pederson; secretary-treasurer,
Philip Hurt; board of
directors, (. II. Slack, P. II Dencor,
ii. a. Johnson, II. II. Stanley and
O. L. Moore.
