Havo spent the winter here In 'Florida and expect to go north coon jjnnd would like to ask some questions about Bond, Oregon, ns we are think- ling of going there. I would like to pnow about what living expenses and (wages would bo. II. W. T., Fort ILanderdalc, Ma. A. The city of Hend has a pop- i illation at the present time of ap proximately 3,000 people, having al- Imost doubled Its population In the ipast elx months. The altitude Is 3G00 feet. There Is n lnrgo tract of Irrigated land In tho vicinity and the town itself Is a distributing point for a very large area of soml-arld homestead lands. To the south and southeast there are largo bodies of timber In the vicinity and It is tho building of two big mills nt Hend that has caused tho rapid Increase Jn population. These mills nro em ploying nt tho present time moro than 1000 men. For n few days during tho winter season tho ther mometer will drop below zero, end whllo Jt gets rather wnrm In the summer there Is usually a breeze from across tho snow-clnd moun tains to the weBt that tends to tem per tho atmosphere Owing to tho elevation and tho naturally dry climate tho placo Is Every favorable for those affected with Insthma. Ono desiring employment cither In Itho mills, box factory, or woods, should hnvo very littlo difficulty in 'securing It. If you will correspond Itwltii Mr. Chas. W. Ersklno, Manager, illond Commercial Club, he will -give fyou moro dollnlto information with 'regard to wages and tho possibility ' of employment. er In the Lakevlew section who wants Information "concerning tho country around. This time the writer wants to know about home steads, "land thnt will grow small grain and where sheep can bo kept." hroni Payette, Idaho, comes n let ter from a man who wants to build or manage a small flouring mill, and a friend Is looking for an opening in tho hotel or restaurant business. Finally, at the bottom of the stack Is a letter from a business house that wants to get In touch with tho saw mills and does not kuow whom to address. This, according to Manager Ers kine, Is a fair sample of ono day's mall. Everyono is from Missouri and wants to know and tho Commercial Club, through him, Is showing them. MANY MCKNHKS ISSUED. PAULINA IiAKK. (By Charles McNott.) Paulina, the queen of the mountains, As fair as cvor you did meet, With n bosom blue as the heavens, And a heart thats 'ere so deep. Whero my heart beats meet and mingle, With tho memories of tho past; 'TIs Paulina Lake that I will remem ber So long as memory lasts. Many happy hours have I wandered Through her shady dolls, And whllo I walked I oft times pon dered On her magic spell. Through tho summer's rain or sun shine, Through tho winter's chilly blast, She's tho queen of my fairies, She's the Idol of my heart, And there will be regret and sorrow On the day that we must pnrt.
