In reply to n request from this of
fice relative to tho olllcloncy of the
auto, especially during tho lire light
ing period. In contrast to tho old way
of transportation whoro horses woro
generally used, district rangers have
submitted Homo very Interesting
factM. One specific enso which Is of
general Interest Is glyeti by Asslstnnt
Hanger Smith, who, according to his
dlnry, performed tho following ser
vice on August 29, lOlo:
"Flro reported to mo nt Hond, In

plies. Stopped nt tho I'lne Mountain
station for tools and arrival! nt lire
at midnight. Dlstnuco covered 50
miles. This trip could not have been
mtido In loss than II hours with
leant. The following table shows
what the difference would have been
If team lind beon used In this par
ticular' case; Hy auto, Hond to lvi

feed for team two days, $3; four men
14 hours at 25 cents ench por hour,
$11, subalstenco 4 men two days,
$5; Total $27.
"In each of tho above cases It Is
assumed that tho ranger Is driving
tho vehicle nnd no account Is taken
of his tlmo or expenses. It Is true
that n team would ordinarily handle
more thon live men but when wo con
sider that feed nnd water for tlfe

not prolmblo that a team would han-

In tho tlmo thot I hnvo allowed."
In District One It has been found
that larkspur areas on the cattlo
rango con bo very successfully erad
icated by allowing sheep to graze
them at tho proper time. It appenrs
that tho plant docs not hurt tho
sheep and if hoy arc nllou'cd to graze
for n limited tlmo only the range Is
not materially damaged for cattlo.
A personal lotter Just received by
this olllco from Mr. Morrltt states
that he Is now In northern Washing
ton going over nllotmcnt estimates
with the different Supervisors In that
part of tho country.
It Is tho wish of the local Forest
olllco to extend the Tumalo road fron
Tumalo nanger Station to Spark's
l.ako as soon nn money Is available.
Wagon travel at tho preaont time can
bo mado within five miles of the
lake, but at this point thero Is an
almost abrupt drop of nearly a
thousand feet which will nccesBltato
considerable grading. A road
through this country la tho forerun
ner for a road from Spark s Lnko, al
most, f duo south for a distance of
about 18 miles to Crane I'ralrlo.Thls
lost strotch Is comparatively easy and
cheap road building country. Such
Improvement will do much more to
protect from forest fires a largo nrea
which nt present Is moro or less In
ncccsslble. The Tumalo and Sparks
il,ako country abounds In beautiful
cnmplng sites, mountain scenery,
waterfalls, soda springs nnd many
beautiful mountain meltdown.

laeg & Co. Will Mot Be Undersold
At 40c ROYAL CLUB is the "best buy" on the coffee mtiTket today
there is no finer coffee at any prPce.
This is no careless statement we make it only after due consid
eration and after thoroughly testing competitive brands including
those of highest price. 'es! And there are thousands qf satisfied
ROYAL CLUB users ready to "back us up."
ROYAL CLUB is made from the finest coffees that moil'ey can buy.
It is blended, neutralized and roasted by the latest scientific processes
and under the personal direction of a coffee expert who stands at
the head of his profession.
ROYAL CLUB is well worth 40c, but for two weeks we are going
to sell it for less for Lang & Co. Will Not Be Undersold.
Do not be misled by coffee roasters who charge you "too much"
fifty-one weeks in the year and then expect the public to clamor
for their product when they reduce the price for one week to what
it should be all the lime.
There is no set "year in and yeaT out" selling price on ROYAL
CLUB. Green coffee costs vary just as do sugar and flour and
.other staples. We have always made confidants of the public
and have given you the benefit in reduced retail cost when the market
was "down" while other roasters pocketed this increased profit
and said nothing.
ROYAL CLUB now sells for 40c, and it's worth it there is no
better cofee at any price; but we will not be undersold by any
"outside" roaster not even for a single week.
