well known packing house people,
liavo purchased a hnlf Interest In ap
proximately 110,000 acres of land
located In Harney county, eastern
Oregon, from tho Corhett estato of
Portland, and Wllllnm Hanley.
Tho property was formorly owned
by tho Hlltzen Volley hand company,
for which .Mr. Him ley acted largely In
tho capacity of manager. With the
cntrnnco of thu Swifts, the lands are
token over by tho Eastern Oregon
Cattle Company, the Incorporation of
which was recently announced.

Tho now owners of tho lands have
as their ultimate purpose to colonize
to tho extent mado possible by future
railroad development.
It Is proposed to extend Irrigation
canals now on the property and to
droln tho Rwompy and marshy lands,
using tho some canals where possible
for both Irrigation and dralnago pur
poses. With tho big ranches subdivided
Into small tracts It Is believed that
JInrnoy county faces a now agricul
tural future.
