Theodoro Hartnagel, a rancher
living near Mctotlus, Is now reaping
tho reward of his unusual persever
ance, nna is a happy man In conse
quence
For ten years Sir. Hartnagel has
lived on his ranch, and for tho great
er part of that tlmo he has hauled
water for a distance of ten miles.
Latterly, however, or since tho rail
road company put In a well at Me-
tollus, ho has -had but about threo
miles to haul water.
During this period of ten years,
Mr. Hnrtnagol worked at Intervals nt
digging a woll. To show the stuff
of which lie Is mado, ho blasted and
drilled 100 feet of solid rock, and
oven then was not discouraged, hut
kept pegging away by hand until ho
had reached u depth or 230 feet.
Then he began using machinery nnd
nt a depth of about 700 feet he
struck an abundant supply of good
water last week. Ho expects to put
in a gasollno pumping plant and sup
ply his near neighbors with water
