Captain Everett Brandenburg and
10 othor men of the Ilend high chool
football tonm, was defeated last Sat
urday by tho fast and heavy Crook
. county high school olovon of Prlne
vlllo by a score of 12 to 0.
Tho above special mention glvon
to tho Bond captain Is deserved, toe
causo ho did two thirds of tho tack
ling, made more than half the Bond
yardage, and held the fast Prlnov lie
back Hold to fower gains than all the
other members of tho Ilend team put
togothor. Ho was tho only man who
S stop nroslus. Prlnevllle-s fas
right half back. Itopeatcdly ho beat
tho Bond ends down on punts and
tacklod tho Prlnevlllo catcher in nls
tracks. It was Brandenburg's best
game. Ho was clearly tho star of tho
Two teams. Had It not been for tho
exceedingly good headwork displayed
by tho Bend captain. Prlnevllle
doubtless would have scored a half
a hundred points on the loca s.
There was nothing particularly
spectacular in tho game. A muddy
field prevented the use of much open
field work, nend could no get IU
forward passes in operation and
the Prlnevlllo lino was too heavy for
the Bend backs to make steady gains
Game Has Unusual Feature.
One unusual featuro of the gamo
was the reference made by Coach
Lawson of Prlnevllle to the B.nap.
tain for a decision on a disputed play,
in the last seconds of the second I par.
lod Prlnevllle punted to Bend on
about the 50 yard line. Brandenburg
algnaled for a fair catch and then
SSwed the ball, which was Belied
by a Prlnevllle player for a touch
down. The referee and the umpire
f.th allowed the score but Coach
fie of Bend. Insisted that Bran-
Orenburg had been "W
,.. f0r fair catch. Coach Law
Ln Mid that he was willing to leave
t"e' matter entirely to Brandenburg
and asked tho Ilend captain whothor
ho was tncklod. Brandenburg as
sorted that ho was aud Coach Law-
son disclaimed tho Prlnovillo touch
down. At no tlmo In Saturday's gamo was
nend a sorlous contondor for touch
downs. Tho team scomod to bo afraid
of tho Prlnovillo lino. Young, who
has playod a stellar gamo through
tho season failed to show his usunt
clnsa.
Visiting I.lno Iltvulcr.
Tho visiting lino was several
pounds to tho man heavier than
Bond's lino. Tho Hold was muddy
nnd tho Prlnevlllo lino shot 'tho
Bond lino full of holos nt almost
ovory nnglo. Only bad fumbles, nnd
tho clovor dofonso work by Brnn-
donburg kopt Prlnovillo from rolling
up a plcnsant looking scoro for tho
county soat gridiron fans.
Bend did show sp-nk on two oc
casions. Onco, whoa Prlnevllle had
tho local high school lads on their
own one and a halt yard lino with
four downs In which to mako tho dis
tance, Bend hold the Prlnovillo backs
to a standstill. Again In tho second
period Prlnovillo pushed tho ball up
,to Bond's (wo yard lino and wns held
tnero for tnrco downs, un mo lourtu
down Broslus took the ball across
tho goal on a wldo right ond run for
tho first touchdown. Prlnovillo sj
second touchdown cama In tho third ,
period when tho visitors, working
smoothly, ran tho ball up tho field
and Charlton, l'rlnavllle's fast full i
back, was sent over the lino. No I
goal was klckod on elthor touchdown.
Tho loss of Saturday's gamo puts
Bond out of tho running for tho
championship of Control Orogon
Pilnovlllo plr.ya Ilodmond next Sat
urday.
