MADE A
RECORD.
QOOD
Conch Krsklno Contributed to Success
of Season Many Stan Developed
-Jjom or CnptAln Vmlcvert AVlil
Ilo Felt Ky Team Next Yea.
: With tho defeat of tho Crook coun
ty high tchool team on November 24
tho Dend high school eleven brought
Its Reason to n successful close. Out
of four games playod tho team hns
won three, losing one closely contest
ed Rama to Prlnovillo.
Much of tho credit for the succoss
of tho season Is duo to tho coach,
Chns. W. Ersklnc. Mr. Ersktne hi
had four ycar'B experience In varsity
foot ball, having playod two yours nt
half back and end on the University
of Oregon team In the years 1907 and
1308, and two years at Wlllamotto
University, whero ho wns regular halt
back In 1911 and 1013. Through
out tho season Mr. Krsklno has in
stilled upon tho minds of his charges
the two qualities that are so charac
teristic of tho teams he played upon,
speed and a fighting spirit.
In developing tho team tho coach
was considerably handicapped by the
lack of any scrub eloven against
which to practice. With no pppo-
nents tho team had nothing to do
dally beyond running through signals
nnd It was Impossible to work out
any satisfactory defense Neverthe
less in their games the players show
ed their football Instinct and defend
ed their kooI with ability.
Every man on tho team through
out tho year played his level best, and
nlthough tho wholo team was not
composed of stars, a marked I in
provoment was shown by everyone
na the season advanced. Right tacklo
waa tho position that gavo Captain
Vandevert and Coach Krsklno the
most worry until tho last gamo wbon
they persuaded Doyd, who had nover
come out for tho team, to play. He
showed his real worth In that game,
being evident In almost every play.
The strength of tho team was In
tho backfield, whero tho real start
wero stationed. Kolloy throughout
was undoubtedly the most valuablo
man, especially In tho last game, In
which ho scored threo of the four
touchdowns. Ho will bo eligible for
the team next year.
As half back, J. Stcldl and Captain
Arthur Vandevert were really excep
tional, for a team so green, as was
tho local one at tho beginning. Steldl
will bo In tho high school next year,
but all the supporters of the team
will be sorry to learn that Captain
Vandevert will graduato next spring.
nnd so be lost to tho team another
year.
Brandenburg at full back through
out the season fought like a but'
dog, and from tho results that came
from his work, anybody could reaJ
ily bellevo it. In the last Prlnovillo
game he was probably the hardest
fighter on tho team.
Here are the score of the games
played by Tlend. Bend 3. Redmond
