If wo stay and pay a higher tax than Is needed we are paying too much. Here's th.o road proposition In a nut-shell. Tbo tax for roads depends on how much you and t&o other tax payers want spent on roads. Make it what you please BUS Whatever Is raised hero should be spent here. In '-1013" Crook county spent 973,000 for salaries and court house expense. In the same year It cost Lako county 993,000 for everything, state tax, schools, roads, salaries, court house. That if the proposed constitutional amendment which makes tho terms of all county officers four years pas. sos, this section wjll not havo a look In until 1918. DO YOU WANT TO LEAVE EVERYTHING IN THE HANDS OF PRINEVILLE FOR FOUR YEARS Ono of tho arguments you wl'l hear against county division Is tin Increase In taxation that will result from having to build and equip a court house There aro two answers to that. In tho first place you do not havo (o build a new court house. You do not havo any now court house until tho voters decide they want ono. Then It will cost only what tho voters say. In Hood River county thoy have no now court house and that la a now county formed four years ago. You need not havo any hero until you want It. So thoro Is ono ancwor. In Deschutes county you will not havo even the expenso ot temporal y quartors for tho county odlolals If Bend is made the county scat. Read tho agreeuont that Uend all- lions have mado. Thoy will furnish frco quarters for the county courl for olx years. Thoro Is tho other answer. You will have no expense for pr.v vid'ng a court house for six years, anyway. Here Is the agrromentt Whereas, it is proposed to form a new county to bo called Deschutes county out of tbo southwestern por tion of Crook county, and Whereas, if said Deschutes county is funned the county court will select some location as tho site of the tem porary county sc-it until tho genoral election to be held In tho year 1916, and Whereas, tho voters of Deschutos county will, at tho general election In tho year 1910, vote for and select the permanent place of county ssat. Now therefore, wo tho undersigned, residents of and tax payern lu tho city ot Dend In said Doschutea county hereby undertake, pronllse and agre In case tho city of Uend Is relucted as the location of tho temporary nnd tho permanent county scat of said Dos chutea county that wo will provide quartors for tho county court and nil county nmccrs rent froo for tho term ot six (6) years from the dato of the formation of said Deschutes county.. And we further undertake, promise and agree that during said term of six yearn wo will neither propose nor assist in any movement having for Its object the erection of a county court house or county blgh school for said Deschutes county, and that If such movement Is begun by any others wo will do all In our powet.to dofeat it.
