The Dalles Land Offlce announces
that the lands will bo open for set
tlement undor tho homestead laws at
9 a. m. on May 9, 1914, and to entry
on Juno S. Tho statement from The
Dalles says further that "no persons
who go upon any of tho lands and
perform any act of settlement there
on from and Including tho date of
the President's Proclamation until
9 o'clock a. ni., May 9, 1914, or who
are on or occupying any part of such
lands at said, hour, except those hav
ing valid subsisting settlement rights
Initiated prior to reservation and
since maintained, will be considered
and dealt with as trespassers and
preference will bo given tho prior
legal applicant, notwithstanding such
unlawful settlement or occupancy
Provided, however, that nothing
herein shnll prevent persons from go
ing upon and over tho lands to ex
amine them with a view of thereaf
ter going upon and making settle
ment thereon when tho lands snail
becomo subject thereto in accordance

largest of these covers much of tho
land along the river In tho Deschutes
forest which li wPhdrawn In connec
tion with tho Ilonham Falls project
and survey. In addition, according
to word received Jn Bend this week,
about two thirds of the eliminated
area near Crescent has been re-wlth-
drawn for reclamation purposes. Ver
ification of this last stctomont has
not yet been received.
