Bleep to many people there was prac
tically no harm done.
The tolephono company, and. Indi
rectly telephono users, suffered tho
most. Tho big plno trco at tho cor
ner of Bond and Ohio streets was
blown down, breaking a number of
wires. Tho May apartment barely
escaped being damagod. the top of
tho trco missing tho building only a
foot or two. It was a closo enough
call to giro tho occupants a shiver
of fright. Tho old unused flutno
which crossed tho Tlvcr at tho Dond
Company's "urldgo tumbled down and
took down tho talophono line to tho
mill, while a few business signs were
blown down.
Early Saturday morning thero was
a big snowstorm which lasted until
about 10 o'clock, and In six or eight
hours there was a fall of nearly a
foot of snow. Nearly every night
elnce then thero has been from a
quarter to an Inch of snow, but tho
days havo been warm and much of It
has melted and goao Into the ground,
to the special delight of the farmers
and the gratification of all who aro
interested In the raising of good
crops the coming summer. Since tho
first of tho year thero havo been two
inches of precipitation at Bend, with
a greater or less amount all over the
Central Oregon country. '

year receiving more encouragement
than ever before from tho railroad
syatoms, who are assisting In a prac

can be made a good money-producer
on the extensive non-Irrigated areas
of Central Oregon.
The road has secured the names of
reliable farmers throughout this ter
ritory and is furnishing each one who
