Dr. A. D. Cropp expects to go to
Portland tomorrow on a short busi
ness trip. Ho will return Tuesday.
E. J. Titus of Wesley, Iowa, who
has been here for the past few weoks,
left Monday night on hit return East.
Mrs. L. H. McCann of Cessford, Al
berta, is expected in Bend shortly to
visit bor daughter, Mrs. Ralph Spen
cer. The Bend Theatre has organized a
six-piece orchestra which will fur
nish music every night at the play
house.
Ilalelgh Sumner, a young man, was
arrested near Deschutes Monday and
taken to Prlneville. Ho Is charged
with house breaking.
C. E. Mdstellor, who has been
working on the Tumalo project, was
in town this week on his way to his
home in Milllcan valley.
Mr. and Mrs. Koscoe Howard will
leave tomorrow evening for San
Diego, Cal., where Mrs. Howard and
the children will spend the winter.
R. II. Post left Monday evening for
Lob Angeles to attend the funeral of
bis father, news of whose sudden
death was received that day.
The Baptist Woman's Union will
hold its regular business meeting in
tbo church tomorrow afternoon at
2:30. All members are requested to
be present.

John Du Buis, who has been over
seeing the enlargement of tbo Cen
tral Oregon canal for the Desert Land
Board, left for Salem Saturday night.
In a few days' ho will go East to Ith
aca, N, V., for his wedding.
Tbo Methodist Sunday school is
preparing a very interesting program
for Christmas Ere (next Wednesday
evening). Various items will be in
cluded, a special feature of which'
will be the Christmas treo.

from tho photo showing Frank Rob

building being erected by tho De
schutes Investment Company and the
one-story building of the R. M. Smith
Clothing Co., has been completed.
The Inside work on tho Smith block
Is farther along and It Is expected
that by January 1 or soon thereaf
ter It will be ready for occupancy
It Is probable that the Knights of
Pythias will hold their New YearB
Eve ball there, before the partition
is put In. Work on the two-story
building adjoining is not as far ad
vanced and it will be February 1 or
later before It Is ready for occupanoy.
With his clothing store Mr. Smith
will occupy one half of bis building
while the other part will be taken by
Bert Shuey's grocery. On the ground
floor of the Deschutes Investment
Co's edifice will bo Patterson's drug
store and the Deschutes Banking &
Trust Co., on Wall street, and the
Pioneer Tolephone Company's office
cm Oregon street. Upstairs the hall
will be used by the Masonic and
Eastern Star lodges, with tho front
offices occupied by Drs. A. L. Wil
liams and J. H. Connarn.
