ABANDON THATCHER MEETING
Good I toads Colonel Gets lllled nnd
QuitH Crook County.
The meeting that was advertised
to be held hero tomorrow night, with
Col. Charles W. Thatcher as tho chief
speaker, has bcon abandoned. All
arrangements for It had been made
and an address by Col. Thatchor be
fore tho schools and another at the
Orange Hall had been arranged for.
when last Thursday he showed up In
llend unexpectedly nnd dashed all
plans by announcing that ho would
have no more of Crook county.
.Last week ho spoke at Laldlaw nnd
later at Sisters. Tho people of Lald
law received him enthusiastically, as
did those of Sisters and, as Uend wns
preparing to do. Then he went to
Redmond, whero he had been adverV
tlsed to speak, but something riled
him ni.d ho threw up the engagement
without-even notifying President M.
A. Lynch of tho Good Roads Associa
tion, who has been h's chief support
er nnd sponsor. It is understood that
Col. Thatcher feels his reception has
not been sufficiently cordial In Crook
county both as regards finances and
enthusiasm, and In addition to that
the dimculttes In connection with the
ltond Issue croated by Judge Spring
er's actions, ho said here, made him
disgusted with the whole affair. At
llend a fat'subscrlptlon had been col
lected ror him, which It has been nec
essary to return to the donors.

Stop the LossFires are Unnecessary
Brick is absolutely fire proof in any ordinary conflagration.
Brick Buildings never burn, although they are sometimes
injured by falling timbers or combustible interior woodwork.
A brick building is absolutely fire proof if wire glass is used
in the windows and if burned clay floors arc used.
An interior fire in such a building is confined to the room in
which it originates; no outside fire can attack it, .
The proportion of burned clay in a building construction
measures its Hre proof qualities.
Burned clay is the only building material that has been
through the fire before you get it, in such a manner that it will
resist fire. All combustible material is burned out of the brick
before you get it.

Why Should Everyone
a Home?
Own
Because, the man who owns ti home or is trying to pay for one bought on
the installment plan makes it better citizen, and is entitled to more credit and
respect than the one who has no home, nor is making the necessary effort to get
one. A home speaks to the heart, enlists the sentiments, ennobles the possessor.
If one buys right, he will know that his property is steadily increasing in value
while he occupies it. This is especially true ANYWHERE IN BEND.
