VAOK 4. llKNl) BL'M.KTIN, BRNO, OKK., WKDNKHDAY, A.IUU8 SO, 101.1. BIG EDITION WINS PRAISE DRAWS ATTENTION TO BEND IndivlditnL and 1'npcrs Comment! The Bulletin's Ahnunl Develop ment Number Which Was Issued on July HO. "REASON FOIt TlIOUflHT." (Portland Oregonlsn) The current Issue of The Bend Bul letin Is called ah "Annual Develop ment Number", by Ita proprietor, George Palmer Putnam. Aside from the twelve pages of news that It cus tomarily uses to "cover" Crook coun ty and Middle Oregon, there nro thirty-two pages devoted to exploitation of resource. Its reference to a mod ern electrical plant capable of serving n city of 25,000 people will be news to many whoso ideas of that region consider Its development In tho prim itive stage; so, also, will be the state ment that "20,000,000,000 feet of timber Is tributary to Uend," and that 227,000 acres offer profitable opportunity to settlors." The Uend country Is- not an undiscovered re gion of Oregon, by any means, yet tbla number of The Bulletin will give reason for sound thought ou the part of Investors." "OUTLINES HKSOCKCKS." A. H. Rogers, of the Itogers Lum ber Company of Minneapolis, and the heaviest owner of Crook county tim ber, writes as follows: "I want to congratulate you on your issue of Wednesday, July 30. "This is one of tho most Interest ing numbers which I have seen in a long time, and is the only one which in any small degree outlines the 'wonderful resources and possibilities of your magnificent country. Nature has dealt bountifully with Central Oregon and all that Is needed Is that these resources be brought to the mind and attention of people with capital to develop them, and In good time they will be developed along large, liberal linos In accordance with the wonderful possibilities lying at your door. "Again I wish to thank you per sonally for the number, which I have enjoyed examining and to which I have called the attention of several of my friends. I wish you contin ued success in your undertaking to build up a first class newspaper." "AMi HIGHLY CHKDITAI1LU." D. C. Freeman, advertising ugent of tho Spowane, Portland & Shuttle Hallway, rays: "A copy of your speJal edition I at hand, and has been vury carefully examined by this department, and we feel it not out of place to acknowl edge It with words of praise for the splendid manner in which the special matter has been gotten up. Not only is the paper well printed and the il lustrations show up to the best ad vantage, but there is reflected in tho showing of merchants' advertise rnonts and the editorial text a spirit of optimism that bodes well for tho future growth of your community. Only energy and hard work will pro duce a publication of this sort and it should do much good in promoting the interests of Central Oregon and attracting people to the section. The secflon printed on enamel papor Is especially commendatory of the print shop work and the entire, edition 1b highly creditable." "FIXE AXXL'AL NTMIIBH." (Bremerton Wash. News) There has come to the desk of the Bremerton news the annual develop ment number of The Bend Bulletin, published at Bend, Oregon. The pa per is .a. sheet of exceptional merit, well gotten up and is a credit to the editor and the community which he represents. In addition to a large amount of excellent reading matter and news, with many well chosen illustrations depicting tho advantages of that section, the issue carries a gratifying I to the editor) good line of advertising from both local and outside sources. The News was pleased to note the absence of ob jectionable advertising for which it has always stood. As a number of Bremerton people have recently ac quired property in Bend, the contents of this number will be of particular Interest to them. This Is reported to be the coming olty of the great dis trict of Central Oregon which is at last being opened to active develop ment. CALL FAVOUABLB ATTENTION'." A Portland newspaper man writes: "Permit me to congratulate you on the very excellent special edition of The Bulletin, a copy of which I havj jiiBt received, Jt certainly Is a credit to you and the members of your staff. The information it contains is pre nented in a manner that will interest and entertain as well as Instruct the reader. Without doubt it will do much to call favorable attention 10 the superior advantages of Bend and the Central Oregon country. It not only reflects the present prosperity of your territory, but points ou. the voy to future progress as well." .,.. 'ill! IS ALI qOOD." t W. C. Wilkes, assistant general freight and 'passenger agent of the Spokane, Portland & Seattlo Hallway, says: "To show you whnt 1 think about your Industrial edition of Tho Hullo tln, 1 passed It to Mr, Young with the following notation: 'It Is nil Koud and worthy of your caroful reading You understand wo ordinarily cut out only the Rood things for tho pros Ulunt. . From William 1 Urnhnm, real es tato man uf Portland, comes thu fol lowing: "I want'to compliment you ou this special number of your paper. It would be a credit to n city much larg er than Heml. However, 1 nm of the opinion that a few boosting numbers of this kind will hnvo n great effect In the upbuilding of your city." "BH.tiKIt AXI) Kl'PKIUOlt." (La Pino Intcr-Mountaln) Bigger and superior in tunny re spects to that published last year Is The Bend Bullotln's annual number Issued last Wednesday.
