Tho body of Barl McCluro, tho 16-ycar-old
son of Mr. and .Mr. J. W.
McClurc who was drowned Inst Wed
nesday afternoon, was recovered at
11:30 a. m. Thursday hy those who
wero dragging tho rivor. It was near
tho center of the stream, where the
river makes the bom opiwslto the
Hudson home, In about 1G feet of
water.
Karl could not swim nnd when the
llttlo canoo in which he and How
ard Young wero having n ride was
tipped over by accident, the boy wa
helpless and soon sank, Howard was
fortunate enough to get hold of the
craft and wa rescued. Aside from
the shock, ho did not suffer from the
exciting experience,
Tho drowned boy belonged to tho
Uoy Scouts of Hcnd, nnd according
to the other !oys wa the only mem
ber who had not learned to swim.
Funeral srrlccs wero conducted at
tho Nlswongcr undertaking parlor
Friday evening nt 7 o'clock by Jlev.
K. C. Ncwham, assisted by Hev. T.
II. Pretlg of Spokane. Hart was a
freshman In tho high school, nnd the
teacher and his fellow student at
tended In a body. Accompanied by
the family, tho remains were taken
to the old homo in Pennsylvania Fri
day morning. Tho McClurc will not
return to Iiend, having left their
property here In the hands of friends
to be disposed of.
This is the third boy to be drown
ed hero this summer, and all lost
their lives on Wednesday.

CLOVERDALE, May 26. About
7:30 a. ra. last Wednesday the 1$-months-old
son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo.
Rivet disappeared. A searching par
ty was soon formed and hunted the
place over, then turning attention to
the largo ditch which runs through
the Rivet place. They found the in
fant about one mile from home
It clothing having caught on brush
In the ditch. The funeral services
wero held Thursday afternoon, con
ducted by Rev. Mr. Towne of Sisters.
The Rivet family recently purchased
tho ranch from M. L. Job.
