Since last August not a hog has
been lmjiortcd Into this state for
butchering. Thla Is the encouraging
news mado public the past week by
C. C. Colt of the Union Meat Com
pany of Portland. He says Oregon
farmers are going extensively Into
tho hog and other livestock business.
During 1911, more than half the
total number of hogs received at the
Portland market came from Nebras
ka. Last year, this number was de
creased to a remarkable extent and
now It apHars that Oregon will not
need to Import any more pork lu or
der to feed Its own people.
I Mr. Colt submitted figures showing
that tne livestock industry In Ore
gon la five tlniee greater than fruit
growing and greater than wheat,
wool and dairy products combined.
