current Is generated from the North
Canal dam.
Tho factory Is located In Riverside
addition, on the railroad spur run
ning to the dam. The main building
Is 40 by SO feet, with an addition to
It of 38by40fcet. Among the out
put of the factory will bo sash and
doors, box shucks, Interior and ex
terior finishing material and wntcr
tanks of all sites. A general plan
ing buslnesa will also be done. Seven
pieces of machinery will be In opera
tion at first. Several men will bo
employed, the number depending oc
the demand for the product turned
out.
It will probably be three months,
Messrs. Currle and Struble say, be
fore electric power can be obtained,
although the North Canal dam was
virtually completed yesterday and the
work of removing the concrete forms
was begun.
Te builders of this manufacturing
plant which will mean a great deal
to tho town came from Seattle In the
early fall and have been busy since
getting ready to operate their factory.

Wlsconln Firm Gets Samples From
Ilend Company and Tries Them
Out With Different Finishes.
Thanks to the progresslveness of
local lumber manufacturers, Oregon
plno has received the attention and
the Advertising of a large wood fin
ishing house, the 8. C. Johnson Com
pany of Racine, Wis.
This company specializes in inter
ior wood finishings, and sends out
many sample books showing the fin
ish various woods take. Recently
tome of these samples were received
here, but none of them were Oregon
pine, and upon inquiry it waa found
that the finishers knew practically
nothing about its possibilities. Then
J. P. Keyes of The Hend Company
tent them some of the local lumber,
which they finished up with their
other samples, returning several
books of the samples here.
"It looks to me aa If We don't need
to use fir, or any other woo.d, for our
Interior finish," paid Mr. Keyes, after
studying the beautiful 'effects obtain
ed with the local lumber product.
"I don't see how one can Improve on
our own pine, when it is treated prop
erly." The samples of the pine are finish
ed in golden oak, dark mahogany,
fumed oak, early English, brown
Flemish, weathered oak, brown and
green weathered, dark oak, bog oak,
and mission oak, giving a roost satis
factory Idea of what may be accom
plished with the Bend pine for fine
finishing work.

body of Gene D. Smith was burled in H
Pilot Dutte cemetery here Monday.
Mr. Smith, who bad a homestead in)
Lake county near the postofficel

cian to be had to attend Mr. Smith.

Tho funeral was held Monday at
10 o'clock at the Nlswonger under
taking parlor by Rev. K. C. Nowham.
The body arrived here Sunday after
noon, In good condition despite the
fact that death occurred more than
a week borore.
