CROOK COUNTY COFFEE
Unique Kvhlblt Made at Portland
Land Products Show.
( Portland Telegram).
There Is one exhibit In tbo land
products show where the coffee beau
can be found as It crows. Amaxlng
as It seems, that exhibit U from
Crook county, tho seml-arld realm
where there are cold nights the year
through, and where dry farming
methods arc necessary. Tho coffco
has been grown on a mere bush,
which the expert manager of the ox
h'blt has nursed to maturity, Just to
show what be can do.
The exhibit suggests anything but
n tropical Jungle, where coffee In Its
natural suto thrive. If ever an
oxhlMt was arranged to make the
Western plainsman homesick, it Is
this. After looking at it for a mo
ment, you aan smell the sagebrush
who had been cofnued fully dresMil.liad
under hU bead "Sauadow'a -Horace."
at hU feet Ilentley "Milton. in bU
right hand a Greek Testament and in
his left band a small "Horace.' The
six on repairing to bis bouse to a cold
repast had to sing the tliirty-Onit od
and drink a cheerful glass before retir
ing at 8 p. m. This done, directed tb
will. "Think no more of John Cnder
wood."

proposed by Julius Caexar to open this

world has regarded as the "Eastern
Oregon Desert."
Hut the coffee Is thero In Its native
pod, on tho bush which grew on a
Prlnevlle farm. It Is not Mocha or
Java, but the veracious word of the
master of this exhibit is given that It
Is real coffee, of the bush variety, and
that Its homo was waoro the coyotes
serenade at night and Jackrabbita
disport all the time.
For originality. It li conceded by
visitors that the I'rinevllle exhibit Is
remarkable. It Illustrates the pace
of development between tho Uockles
and Cascades, where the sagebrush Is
universal. An Indian topee Is on tho
right, begrimed with smoke, from
which It would not surprlie one to
see the greasy face of a Piute pro
trude. There la sreasewood and
sagebrush nest, and then the famous
hunohgrasa, just as It Is taken from
the Kastern Oregon hills. Then
come the first products of the white
man, and finally all the vegetables
ajjd fruits known to the region.
