On.Oftt. i'J, at SpUtla, Ilend was
.singularly honored and advertised.
The Seattle Ad Club, one of tlie
largest and most Influential publicity
nnd nueiness orttftHlzatlons In the
West, was the sponsor of a regular
Ad Club luncheon, at which the
Emblem Club of Bend was the offletnl
host of the day. represented by the
Head Park Company, to whom be
longs the credit for the arrangement
and the financing of what was char
acterised as the most unique and
entertaining event of the kind yet
won In Seattle, a city noted for such
"stunts."
There were 2G6 Seattleltes at tho
long tables In a special room of tho
llathskeller. More than 200 were Ad
Club men. Some thirty ladles were
present, setting a now precedent for
the Seattle club's luncheons, which
hitherto have been exclusively stag
affairs. There wero, In addition to
Ad Clubbers, the members of the
Uend Park Company's force, and a
number of Invited guests, men Inter
ested, In one way and another, In
Ilend.
The luncheon was, first, last, and
all the time, a Ilend boosting u flair.
During the hour and a half of Its
duration this town received more
unique ana substantial publicity than
has ever before been accorded any
community in the Northwest. Kvery
other week tbo Seattlo Ad Club has
a luncheon. Bach Is turned over to
some firm, among its members, to
be conducted by the hosts of the day,
who -ore privileged to mill off any
speolai features thoy wish. I-ast
Tuesday was the first time that a
real estate firm ever has boon given
tbo conduct of the luncheon, and the
first tlmo that the Seattle organiza
tion ever has turned ltn official at
tention (o an enterprise outside of
tbo state of Washington, or has put
its "O. K." upon a small town, and
especially one in anothor state.
In a lengthy report of the festivi
ties, the Seattlo Post-Intolllgoncor
said, in part:
In the gloaming of artificial
twilight, accentuated by heroic sil
houettes of witches astride broom
sticks on the walls, Jack-p'Jantorna
of papier macho on tho tables and
.paper caps of wblto, black and
yellow on the heads of tho hosts
nnd guests, the Emblem Club, of
Dend, Ore, yesterday entertained
the Senttlo Ad Club at a Hallow
