At the monthly meeting of the
City Council last nlgtit, a conldei
able amount of routine business was
(' transacted.
Action was taken on a petition re
questing tho Installation of a fire hy
drant on the corner of Ohio street
and Lara road, this being ordered,
subject to direction of tho tiro com
mittee, who are to make suitable
provisions for Its establishment. Un
der a similar order, a hydrant Is to
lie Installed In tho rear of Llnster'a
Hall, where It will afford protection
to that building and to the flour I
mill. A third hydrant was recom-
mended by the fire committee and
ordered Installed, at the corner of
, FrVnl and Kentucky streets.
A petition for a license to con
duct saloon In the building former
ly occupied by Certon, made by Oil
ier Thorbjortjeon, waa reported ad
versely by the liquor committee, and
the report unanimously accepted.

City Engineer Young reported
that the cemetery has been restaked,
at n cost of 347.2S.
The police report showed total col
lections for tho month to be IS, all
from pound fees.
An ordinance providing for a city
scavenger and the removal of gar
bage, etc., was read and referred to
the health committee for redrafting,
with the city attorney.
Dr. n. Ferrell, never having qual
ified to that office, the mayor was au
thorlxed to appoint a city health of
ficer. This Mayor Putnam did this
morning, naming Dr. Terrell, who
accepted the position nd Is now of-;

and reconstructed on the lota on
Wall street and Greenwood avenue
whore destroyed and Injured by the
recent tiros, and the property owners

Common Council of the city of ttond,

by all who worked with him In cy
affairs and In private life.
'Therefore, bo It resolved, by the
Common Council of the city of Mend
that tho loss cf Mr. Sellers la a great
loss to llend, and that the council
hereby expresses Us great apprecia
tion of Mr. Sollors' high character,
and extends Its sincere commisera
tion to Mr. Sellers' survivors."

DUcuns Fire Alarm Hell.
After the meeting Mayor Putnam
stated that he wished to bring up, at
tho next meeting, a .proposition to
have a large Are bell Installed. Data
Js now being collected. A probable
location for the proposed new bell
Is to place it on the big pole recently
erected near the Dend Hardware Co.
store in connection with circus acts
on July 4, whence It would be heard
all over town. It Is also desired to
get an electric connection thence to
the pumping plant.

II. J. Kgglcston returned from a 700-
mile business missionary auto trip to
tho southeast and south. They were
accompanied by John Demar nnd
John Yeoman, making the Journey In
K. It. Post s auto, with Karl Houston
as driver. A remarkable feature of
tho trip was that not a single
puncture marred Its progress. Tho
itinerary Included a swing that took
tho party through llrooklngs, Kgll,
Hums, Murphy's ranch, Valley Falls,
Silver Lako and Fort Hock. Many
stops were made at largo ranches.
